American (PSA) Airlines problems in Charlotte
I despise the CLT airport. It is managed poorly, the City thinks it makes all the right moves, but trips all the time. The airport is too big, and never should have gotten that size.

Yeah, my son's Sunday flight from southeast Virginia to Charlotte (and ultimately on to Las Vegas so he could drive back to Twentynine Palms) was cancelled. He didn't get an e-mail notification until ghe was well into the check-in line. I was with him and argued that he needed some compensation for loosing his ride from Vegas to Twentynine Palms and for a hotel room until his rebooked flight today. We got a $24 voucher out of them. AA sucks.

We did an international transfer in Charlotte last night. This explains why the American ticket counter was bedlam. We wanted to pick up a new boarding pass for the wife since hers was missing her PreCheck clearance on it. When we saw the chaos at the ticket counter we went with what we had. Security was rushing people through quickly, essentially treating everybody as PreCheck, so it all worked out. Biggest delay was in immigration.

Wednesday morning update:

American Airlines says it has "stabilized" a computer system that failed at one of its affiliate carriers, causing the cancellation of 2,500 flights over the past week.

American said getting back to normal will likely take several days, but officials expect the number of cancellations to drop significantly by Wednesday.

Stabilized?

They said it was a "hardware" issue. Something bad definitely happened.

Surprise!

Frustrations continue to build as 85 more flights were canceled at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport Wednesday.

American Airlines' regional carrier, PSA Airlines, has canceled 2,750 flights since last Thursday. Charlotte-Douglas is the second largest hub for the arline, accounting for 90 percent of flights in and out of the Queen City.

I suppose there will eventually be a report on what the problem actually is.

There is a reason I chose United over American Airlines even though it's our home airline. American flights were consistently very bad service.

Despite having to transfer more than half the time, I've had a better experience on United. Given all the crap that goes wrong with United, it should speak volumes about American.
