4 days and still not fixed? How hard can it be?

In Charlotte:

Thursday Night: PSA Airlines, a regional carrier for American Airlines, reportedly experienced a “technical issue” that led to the cancellation of 275 flights on Thursday. “Our team, in coordination with PSA, is working hard to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. PSA plans to resume their operations at 12 p.m. ET on June 15.

Friday: American Airlines says a technical problem that forced one of its regional carriers to cancel hundreds of flights has been resolved. A company statement says American's PSA Airlines carrier canceled 275 flights Thursday and around 400 flights Friday because of the technical issue.

Oopsie!

Sunday: Officials said at least 70 flights were canceled Sunday night.

Monday: PSA Airlines, an American Airlines regional carrier, canceled all flights out of Charlotte Sunday evening and will be operating on a reduced schedule Monday and Tuesday. American Airlines said most PSA flights Monday evening after 7 p.m. will be canceled.

The technical issue with PSA continues to disrupt travel plans and will last at least through Tuesday.

Channel 9 has learned American Airlines sent IT workers to Dayton, Ohio to help PSA Airlines fix the computer glitch. The problem affected pilot and crew schedules and flight operations, so they were not getting their assignments fast enough, officials said. The airline has tried updating the system but it's running slow.

American airlines called this problem a hardware issue.

Seems to me the ripple effect of these cancellations would be substantial. All over the country.

More cancellations Tuesday morning.

"We've been here since Wednesday," traveler Angela Watkins told Channel 9 Monday night.

I was wondering if someone was going to bring this up. Thank goodness I don't have any flights this month.

I flew to Michigan this weekend, in Friday morning and out Sunday night, both via ORD. I'm loyal to AA and almost ALWAYS end up going through CLT when I travel the east coast, glad I booked the way I did.

Crap, my AA return flight is coming through Charlotte on Thursday. Does anybody know if the problem is only with flights through CLT? Is this all AA flights through CLT that are having problems or just the regional carriers?

Brett B, it's just the regional carrier PSA. The rest of the flights are normal.

No, they're not, because when one carrier has a change in load factor or capacity, or there are delays at one airport, it impacts everything else across the board. Each passenger who was booked on a flight wont' make connections, and each connection to be carried by that downed carrier must either be re-routed on another flight or is unable to complete the flight; the problem extends well beyond the actual period of the problem, too.

Thank you for the generous offer SIG4EVA. It would be fun meeting up with a fellow Sigforum member, but I was able to get my flights changed to avoid CLT altogether. Cool

Sigforum comes through again. Without this thread I would have had no idea that there were issues as it's not posted to AA's site anywhere.

Welcome to the new world of USA airlines! The last time I flew was the last time I fly. If I ever have to go to Idaho again, I am driving. In our experience, this kind of crap is not limited to a single airline, symptomatic of what has become, or should be, a national scandal.

Courtesy, respect, service have long since disappeared from that scene!

I flew into CLT Sunday from DFW. Terminal E where the commuters fly, was more packed than DFW or the CLT main terminals. All chairs full and people sprawled everywhere on the floor.

Plus the temperature in E was about 88 degrees.

I think while we were waiting, our flight was the only one to get out on time. Of course, it just goes back and forth from Florence, SC.

Latest news:

According to an American Airlines spokesperson, about 200 flights were canceled on Tuesday. That number was expected to dramatically drop on Wednesday.

We shall see.

PSA is having an issue with the software program that manages the Pilot and Flight Attendant schedules. Hopefully it will be fixed by tomorrow. Whatever the case is give it 1-2 additional days after the fix and things will be back to normal.

How can they not have a backup? How many thousands of people have they impacted, and how many millions of dollars have been wasted or lost?

Baffles me that there was not some sort of redundancy.
