She was such an awesome dog...always a total lover, sweetest dog ever.

Was tough seeing her last time a bit slowed down and less energetic.

People always say they have good dogs but Kayla was a gem, she was so gentle and happy.

Will miss her, feel better bro!

Allow yourself the time to grieve the loss. Dogs are family members. Looks like this one was very special.
You might later, when time has passed, want to consider giving another great dog a wonderful home.

I'm sorry for your loss. Had to put down my dog earlier this year. It is a terrible thing and is really upsetting. Try to find comfort in the love and life you provided her.

I've had a couple go over the bridge. It stinks but the joy and companionship of the prior years easily outweighs it. I always liked the following, which is a pretty famous (at least in lawyer circles) closing argument from a civil case involving a dog named Old Drum:

Gentlemen of the jury, the best friend a man has in this world may turn against him and become his enemy. His son or daughter whom he has reared with loving care may prove ungrateful. Those who are nearest and dearest to us—those whom we trust with our happiness and our good name—may become traitors to their faith. The money that a man has he may lose. It flies away from him, perhaps when he needs it most. A man's reputation may be sacrificed in a moment of ill-considered action. The people who are prone to fall on their knees to do us honor when success is with us may be the first to throw the stone of malice when failure settles its cloud upon our heads. The one absolute, unselfish friend that man can have in this selfish world—the one that never deserts him, the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous—is his dog.

Gentlemen of the jury, a man's dog stands by him in prosperity and in poverty, in health and in sickness. He will sleep on the cold ground, where the wintry winds blow and the snow drives fiercely, if only he can be near his master's side. He will kiss the hand that had no food to offer, he will lick the wounds and sores that come in encounter with the roughness of the world. He guards the sleep of his pauper master as if he were a prince. When all other friends desert, he remains. When riches take wings and reputation falls to pieces he is as constant in his love as the sun in its journey through the heavens. If fortune drives the master forth an outcast in the world, friendless and homeless, the faithful dog asks no higher privilege than that of accompanying him to guard against danger, to fight against his enemies. And when the last scene of all comes, and death takes the master in its embrace, and his body is laid away in the cold ground, no matter if all other friends pursue their way, there by his graveside will the noble dog be found, his head between his paws, his eyes sad but open in alert watchfulness, faithful and true even to death.

Sorry to hear this, our furbabies ARE our kids. They are family. I don't care who hated that term, but they are our family. Our GSP Fritz is invited to most every family event. He is the most well behaved dog we have ever had (he is 13). Dogs are extraordinary! Our condolences, Snapping Twig. Frown

Condolences on the loss of your buddy. Time will help, but the hurt can stay with you for a good long while. Getting another pup or dog is always a good idea.

I'm very sorry for your loss ST. It's not silly to weep over a dog. I cried until I couldn't cry anymore when I had to put my kitty down 15 years ago. It took me until last year before I let myself get another and I feel fulfilled again finally.

Thank you, you are all so very generous.

My wife wants to travel, so she's put a replacement dog on hold for now.

Truth be told, it's too soon anyway, but I do understand the value in it.

As some one who's life has been intertwined with dog's most of my life, I will say, your tribute to her was wonderful. I don't think you could explain your and her life together any better and heartwarming.

It is so hard to accept the loss, the absence is very painful, trust me I know. I am posting something I found recently that always gives me strength when I start grieving over a loved pet..and there have been many.
