Just imagine what a wasteland many of these areas will be like in 10, 15, 20 more years of this. I live across the river from portland and from what I see 99.99 % of people in these areas cannot connect the dots on how they vote.

Just wait for the $20 minimum wage increase For fast food workers to hit in a couple months.

Get ready to pay even more for a burger in CA.

Closures and robots are the future out here.

In high school in the 70s, a job at In N Out was the premier one to get, it paid twice the wages at other fast food places, and I hear the pay is still much better than the others, plus benefits, 401K, and other incentives. They have a strict appearance code- no tattoos, beards, long hair, dyed hair, etc. And no stockholders to please, it is still a family run and owned business. In N Out will never disappear.
My first exposure was in the early 80s (Hesperia, CA, I-15, Main Street exit 143). At the time, before the area's population started to explode in the late 90s, it was the only business at that location, surrounded by open desert. In-N-Out is one thing I truly miss since leaving CA.

That location is on the safe side of 680. I used to work around there. If it's bad there, I'd hate to be on the other side after dark.

I live about 3 blocks from the In-n-out. Boy do I love me a 4x4! It must have been really bad for them to close. Usually the In-n-out is packed with cars flowing into the street…
And also they print Bible verses on the bottom of the cups and other items, FYI.

Did you mean 880 ?

680 doesn’t go through Oakland.

The mile radius from the airport is one of the roughest sections crimewise. Is no one shocked though ? How bad are conditions when a company that is employing dozens and paying a lot in taxes at that location and is profitable at that store closing up. Sad state of affairs. But all you have to do is look at Oakland and no one is surprised.

I lived pretty close to in n out in Livermore and the kids working there were always the nicest friendliest fast food workers. Nearby mcd’s and jack in box employees were always sullen. Regardless 3+ years ago they all had signs now hiring 15-17 a hour depending on shift. Not bad for a high school kid. Wouldn’t want to try to raise a family on that in the Bay Area. Also no non natural hair color and no visible tattoos and non traditional piercings meaning 2 per ear only. Something all companies would be wise to adopt. It’s just cringe in my opinion seeing people I have to deal with that look terrible.

We’d never eaten at one of these places until we moved to AZ. There are none in Montana but now we have one very close to our house. We probably hit it once a week. Great food and great help.

Much money to be made there still.

Look at it as a cornucopia of wealth for insurance companies, law enforcement, lawyers and those employed by them,
The courts and judges,
Hospitals and ambulance companies, paramedics, doctors, social workers, even tow truck companies, prisons.

None of these people are beating feet to escape the crime.

Crime in this country does indeed pay, make no mistakes about it.

Shameful situation there.
They would be welcome here and strongly supported.
Meal protection would be in place on day one.

In my own business where I run pop-up shops, I avoid cities where the police are demonized or defunded. These cities do not deserve ‘nice things’ and won’t until the citizens put a stop to the nonsense.

Unless you had aspirations to get into management, fast-food jobs were never intended to be long-term, career-type jobs. The entry-level skill-set and widely varied hours is specifically suited for first-job seekers (kids) and those looking for the schedule flexibility that career-type jobs don't offer.

Friend of mine went to Disneyland recently, after 10-minutes of asking why he would patronize them (his wife's plan), I asked if he saw any cross-dressing employees...yup, saw a few. He did ask some other employees (at the bar) on what's going on with the bearded dudes in a thematic dress, the reply was that Disney is desperate for employees as many long-timers have aged-out into retirement or moved out of state, and who's applying are the odd-balls, misfits and questionable appearance types with grievances.

You’re correct. I was doing it from memory and I’ve commuted on both. Both are brutal.

Just gross. I Worked at Great America in Santa Clara as a teen and that was in the late 80’s enough for a lifetime for me. my kids have only ever been to the Santa Cruz boardwalk and that was an adjunct to actually going to the beach for the day. Unless they take themselves they likely won’t see Disney or most any other amusement park on my dime.

Not suggesting fast food work is a careeer but sadly I do see middle aged people with apparently few other skills dojng it. In N out was specifically unique that the smart, good looking, well spoken kids of all races that I ever dealt with while getting my food seemed to be a step ahead of most of their peers. And they are rewarded by being paid better for that same entry level job. Smart business decision to pay extra and hire the better than average teen.

Not sure why In-N-Out so popular. Their menu is limited to what, three different burgers or something like that? And, they're nothing special, taste wise. Ironically, In-N-Out implies getting your food quickly and leave, but because they're so popular, your order takes forever. Tried them once, and that would be the first, and last, time.
