Oakland, CA (near Oakland Int'l Airport), due to crime. https://www.msn.com/en-us/mone...4d8bb38372f64a&ei=33 In-N-Out pays well above average for the fast-food business and also pays health insurance, as well as other benefits, for full-time employees. Note, too, that the employees of the closed location will get transfers to another store or a severance package, so they won't be left out in the cold.

Yet another business closing in an under-served community due to crime and profit loss.

In the same parking lot as a closed up Walmart store. Also right across the freeway from the nearly abandoned Oakland Coliseum stadium and arena.

Fucking animals in that community. I'm surprised the locals didn't try to blame "greed" on the part of In-N-Out for closing. While I am not a native Californian, I have come to love In-N-Out burgers. They have one in Killeen, TX and I eat there every time I'm at Fort Hood. _____________

They've turned Oakland into a football desert! ... but the NFL never gets the blame for the deserted wasteland left behind when a team moves. Everyone understands: They moved for greater profit, it's just business. "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

In N Out restaurants print money. This one in particular was quite profitable. In what world would you close down a profitable business? Congrats Gavin. P229

Thank you Very little |
Even if it is profitable, if your location is getting robbed quite a bit, then keeping it open means the company puts profit over employees lives. Some attorney will argue that they put them at risk, if some gang banger kills a kid and the company, knowing the area is bad, and knowing the store is robbed, did nothing or would have to prove it did everything to protect the employees, then they would pay out millions with a Oakland based Jury in a civil suit. Its a risk vs reward situation, the legal risk of keeping a store open in a high crime area to employees forces management to make these decisions.

In-N-Out said this was a very profitable location. There aren't closing because it's underperforming or that it's been robbed repeatedly but rather, it is customers and guests who are or their cars are broken into while eating inside. In some instances, cars in the drive thru line are robbed sequentially. The community and lack of fortitude by city leaders drove them to close shop.

So just like how racism was supposed to end when Nikki Haley lowered the historical Confederate flag from over the South Carolina capital? Got it! [/snark] "If you’re a leader, you lead the way. Not just on the easy ones; you take the tough ones too…” – MAJ Richard D. News flash: They lost the baseball team too. The "Oakland" A's are moving to Vegas as soon as a ballpark can be built. .

More fast food franchises will close this year but not due to crime. Primarily because they have just gotten too expensive. Thank the $15 an hour bullshit for that among other things such as inflation. What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

I saw a video of the city supervisor who represents the area, begging for more police help, but the rest of the board and the mayor basically told her fuck off. That In N Out is such an obvious target. Tourists in rental cars coming in for their fix of a cheeseburger, and their bags and luggage are stolen, even while they're in their cars. It's better than Citibank. In-N-Out has always paid very well, long before the living wage shit. They aren't begging for people but rather have to turn them away because they aren't the image that In-N-Out wants. They are looking a certain look, personality and attitude that most applicants don't have. Starting wages have been around $17/hr for some time.

That says a lot about them, even if for pragmatic reasons. How many companies would stay open?
Similar to Chick-Fil-A, they only employ young (or young-ish), reasonably attractive, cheerful people. Even the people who wash, peel and slice up the potatoes for french fries (imagine that!) look happy to be doing it. They'd never hire me, or if they did I wouldn't last 10 minutes.

It's a business, like any other, if you can't be profitable, or sales are stagnant, or, local governments are oppressive then you consider other locations. Las Vegas has lower taxes, less crime, a more business friendly government, even if it is a D run state, it's nothing like the Oakland area is in the East Bay.

Ive been to that location many times, it's right outside Oakland airport which is the main Southwest hub for the SF Bay Area, which other than being in a shit-hole area, that airport is very easy and convenient to use. That said, those In-N-Out's located near airports are cash cows, the one at LAX that always gets featured on travel shows and social media I believe is their most profitable location, same also for Burbank, San Diego, SFO, etc. While Gavin rightfully is apart of the problem, the bigger share of the blame goes to Oakland city government. Oakland for the longest time has always had self-serving, ideological elected ignoramus' (not going to call them leaders) involved with government and these days are no different. In fact, this era of Oakland government has seen both Raiders and Warriors leave, mainly because Oakland government couldn't figure out a way to work with the franchises, on the way to loosing the baseball A's, and has seen all major concerts go across the bay to SF's new arena. Prior when teams played in Oakland, and celebrities performed, they usually stayed at hotels in SF. Oakland city gov is so bad, they forgot to submit their application to the state in time in order to receive millions in funds to be disbursed to retailers affected by high-crime. Popular restaurants and stores have been broken into and robbed repeatedly, resulting in closures and frustrations. All the gas stations around the airport are hot-spots for armed robbery and assaults, as people rushing to return their car rentals absent-mindedly leave doors open or, don't pay attention to their surrounding, thus the predators prey. OH and there's a pro-crime district attorney...Oakland has never been a learning community given that they saw SF recall their pro-crime DA a year earlier.

I have been eating at In N Out since I was a little kid in the 60s, the location we went to was one of the original ones, they had maybe only half a dozen stores, spread throughout So CA at the time. In high school in the 70s, a job at In N Out was the premier one to get, it paid twice the wages at other fast food places, and I hear the pay is still much better than the others, plus benefits, 401K, and other incentives. They have a strict appearance code- no tattoos, beards, long hair, dyed hair, etc. And no stockholders to please, it is still a family run and owned business. In N Out will never disappear.
