Sync Messages to the cloud with Apple’s iOS 11.4 update Edward C. Baig USA TODAY Apple’s latest software update for the iPhone and iPad brings a long overdue, helpful new feature: the ability to sync Messages across your various Apple devices in iCloud. The feature, which arrives only a few days ahead of Apple’s next Worldwide Developer’s Conference, had been previewed at last year’s WWDC. What it lets you do is store your messages, photos and other attachments in iCloud to free up space on your devices. It might also bail you out of real trouble should you ever lose your phone or tablet. That’s because you’ll be able to get to your messages when you sign into a new device. Conversations are encrypted. Keep in mind that if you delete messages and conversations from one device, they are automatically removed on all those devices. You can fetch iOS 11.4 on your iPhone by tapping Settings, General, Software Update. From there you must enable Messages in iCloud. Here’s how: Tap Settings and tap your name at the top of the screen. Then tap iCloud and tap the Messages switch so that green is showing rather than gray. You’ll have to do this for each device. iOS 11.4, which also brought stereo pairing and multiroom audio capabilities to Apple’s Siri-driven HomePod speaker, won’t be the latest release of iOS for long. At WWDC on Monday, Apple is expected to showcase iOS 12. _________________________

I think I mentioned this one in a post some time ago, but it is A True Story re Siri. I was showing a friend how Siri works. Not thinking too much about it, sort of making a joke, I said, "Siri, <friend's name> wants to get laid." Siri responded with contact information for three or four "escort services" in the area. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

Agreed, the syncing of iMessage is a huge help! I can't believe it took this long.

After a couple of disasterous ios 11 updates I have now decided not to do any more of them. And if I could buy a brand new 1959 Chevrolet Apache pickup instead of the ridiculous crap they make now, I'd do it. Signed, A. Luddite

They forgot one device, though. The Apple Watch. It does not sync messages with the watch. It won't sync with your Mac, either, until you install 10.13.5, which has not been released yet (probably Monday in conjunction with WWDC). I agree it is a great idea. Mail already does this if you utilize an iCloud email account.

They finally straightened-out 11.x as of 11.3. My wife and I are running 11.3.1 on all our devices and they're all working fine. I think battery life might even have been improved? This message has been edited. Last edited by: ensigmatic, "America is at that awkward stage. This. Also, I'd like handoff to work on a regular basis. I love being able to copy something on my computer (like a phone number) and paste it into my phone. Iv'e not been so lucky with my iPhone 7 and the 11.4 update. Seems to have slowed down, laggy and sluggish to some extent. Now, I don't usually have problems with updates, but starting with the previous 11.3.x, I had persistent email login problems, now this. Doesn't Apple QC this shit? What, with a dozen people? How can they release this buggy OS? I have very few apps installed, and lot of memory.. "Strange days have found us, strange days have tracked us down." JM

Sorry to hear. I have NEVER (knock on wood) had an issue with an iPhone update and that includes every update published going back to the iPhone 3G. With well over one Billion iPhones sold there are bound to be some with issues. I updated my Apple TV, iPhone to 11.4 and my MacBook Pro to 10.13.5 all three this morning at the same time with no issues. I always go through all the setting afterwards on the phone because some defaults are sometimes changed, and that can affect performance and battery life. (iCloud message syncing was off by default on mine) I hear some say that it may take a bit for all the relevant files to be created, moved or used and stuff cleaned up after an update. Hopefully your issues are temporary. Collecting dust.

macOS 10.13.5 was released yesterday, so those of you running High Sierra can get your Mac's in on this message sync deal. I generally do not install a new macOS version until the final point release is done. 10.13.6 is now in beta, so it looks like later this summer that I will be able to take advantage of it.

It would be nice if Crapple would tell people of these updates. Of course it is Crapple. Last week I didn't have permissions to move my own photo from one folder on my hard drive to another folder on my hard drive. And then it wouldn't even let me open the photo up. I tried tech support, they had me re-build the OS and that didn't work. I truly hate this computer, I will not but another MAC. and the phone isn't much better since Siri is a retard moron who will fail to give you the correct item wanted every time. Oh and another thing. Every time I tape Glock on a search bar the computer changes it to Block. Hey Steve Jobs, I think you died just to not have to see how bad your company has become. Two of your problems are easy to fix. Turn off Siri. Turn off “auto correct”.

No need to hate on the computer. A simple fix. Type "Glock." When it changes to "Block", right click it and select "Glock." Then right click Glock again, and select "Learn Word." If you accidentally enter an incorrect word into the system dictionary, like "teh" instead of "the", right click it and select "Unlearn Spelling." Be advised that all applications using the system dictionary won't allow you to learn and unlearn words, so sometimes it is best to open up TextEdit, create a blank document, and use that to learn and unlearn words. Also, some applications do not use the system dictionary, and must be managed separately. Most notably Microsoft Office applications. One of the first things I do with a new computer is teach it all of my common proper nouns. Admittedly, Siri doesn't work as well as Google. That is the price you pay for not having your data mined harder than a proctologist on your 50th birthday. As usual with crapple it make it work you have to hack it. Yeah Siri has been turned off for years for me, it’s stupid and it doesn’t work. Now what’s all the crapple-fans have to say about the permissions issue. Hmmmmm, stone dead silence..... P.S Apple sucks "da evil Count Glockula."-Para

Dude, adding proper nouns to a system dictionary is hardly a hack. [News flash - you have to add proper nouns to a Windows dictionary too!] Nobody really wants to help you if you're just looking for an opportunity to get in a few pejoratives. BTW, the 1990's called and wants the words "Crapple" and "Windoze" back.
