PA has a License to Carry for concealed carry. It is about the size of a credit card, has your photo on it and lasts for 3 years. Not sure if those details are universal across the state, as some counties have done things differently in the past.
Open carry is legal across the state, except (I think) Philadelphia and Pittsburg. They seem to have their own, more restrictive rules. How that is possible (superseding state law) I don’t know.

As stated above, TN is now a constitutional carry state so a permit is not required. I do have and carry my TN CCW permit. I still have an active permit for the state of CT that I have had since 1992 that is carried on my person for no particular reason. I rarely make it to CT, but when I do I almost always fly into NYC and for that reason I do not bring a CCW along.

Wyoming is another Constitutional Carry state. I still have and keep current a permit primarily so that I can legally carry a loaded firearm in the car or truck when traveling to any of the other states that honor a Wyoming permit.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Drabfour,
I solved Georges problem by repurposing a smallish zippered coin purse .
60% of my non-daily use cards go in the zippered pouch.
( In my right hip pocket)
And seven other cards go in my billfold .
Other hip pocket.

^^^ naw I went to a minimalist wallet with a few cards including my License to Carry card in my front pocket. We aren’t required but I’ll still renew my permit whenever it comes time to do do.

Last month, actually.

Although the carry permit is no longer required, there are reasons to have it:
  • It eliminates the waiting period when buying a firearm.

  • In the event of a traffic stop, I would just hand it to the officer along with driver license, registration, and insurance card, in the belief that the officer might feel a bit more comfortable if s/he noticed that I have a handgun.

  • It is on the list of valid Voter ID's in Florida. Last time I voted, the poll worker did not know what a Passport Card was -- Roll Eyes, even when I presented mine, but she did know what a Florida Carry Permit was.

  • For possible travel to other states that recognize the Florida permit.

My wallet has three permits and with them can travel the West, with the exception of CA and NV, concealed. With a FL permit, and reciprocity most of the US is also covered. I do what I can to avoid the hard-left states like CA, MA, NJ where a good pocket knife is with me. A fixed bladed knife next to the bed in any motel in the loony left America where the democrats want us at the mercy of criminals.

West Virginia has had Constitutional Carry for a few years now. However, I live within two miles of the border with two other states (KY, OH) and travel back and forth frequently.
So, I keep my permit active and valid just for that reason. And I carry it on me, so yes.

That's an odd one.. are you required to keep your OL with you if you are not driving?

I guess I should specify, you are required to keep it while driving whether you are carrying or not. Had an officer inform of this before.

Thanks for clarifying the context. BTW - I wasn't being snarky, just really curious.

They are trying to transition to a plastic card, which is not yet recognized statewide so, we have the paper permit, and a plastic permit card. They told us to just carry both, but the paper one is the "real" one.

I guess I'm in a lucky county, my renewal was laminated for me. How nice of them. Wink

what if you are from out of state and unarmed, but could CCW there under reciprocity, but just choosing not to?

I fly in and go to RTP for business (unarmed) and rent a car now and again. Never brought my CHL since (I thought) there was no need.

As I write this, I realize that's a super dumb law they have there. Just because I need to ask such questions Smile I mean, do I need to bring my fishing license too, even though I don't plan to fish? Do I need to bring my Dog's license even though I'm leaving the dog at home?

Here's the actual law.

To possess a concealed handgun in North Carolina, you must:

Carry your permit and a valid form of identification with you at all times.
Disclose the fact that you have a valid concealed handgun permit when you are approached or addressed by any law enforcement officer in North Carolina.
Inform the officer that you are in possession of a concealed handgun.
Present both the permit and valid identification at the request of an officer
NOTE: You should not attempt to display either your weapon or your permit unless directed to by an officer.

Constitutional carry here, but a person must be able to identify themselves...so that might count as paperwork for your poll?

OR, perhaps you're asking if I chose to have a CHL/CHP despite the constitutional carry? I do...mostly for the NICS exempt card. It also facilitated a couple of nonresident carry permits in other states. I do carry the permit when I carry.

For years I chose not to have the permit, because it does pop up when tags are ran associated with my name. 99% of the time, that's no big deal in Alaska. But there's always the one power-hungry native guy near girdwood it seems.... He likes to pull over vehicles he doesn't approve of (like big pickups or large SUV's). He leads with "what kind of high capacity magazines and military firearms do you have in the vehicle" It isn't a joke either, he's a prick. Because he's native, and was on the television show...it seems he can't be touched.

I do love that "Nobody's business, maybe, maybe not" option. Big Grin But that's not what I went with.

I'll wager in most states that do not have constitutional carry, you would be well-served to keep that card in your wallet. There are situations where having a permit means you walk away instead of being detained.

If I lived in a CC state (CO is NOT one of them), I would just make sure I leave the house with a weapon AND both middle fingers.
