Turning 70
I just went to my 50th High School Reunion near Dallas two weeks ago. It actually made me feel better about myself after seeing that most were really old looking people! Sad part was watching the "In Memory of" video of lost classmates. I have a new Grandson born this year so I need to make it to 2037 to see him graduate. Both my parents died young (ages 57 and 62) but I have lived a much healthier life. My four Grandsons under age 8 keep me active.

71 in a month and a half. Prediabetic, eyesight is poor, neck spine probs, 3 unrelated cancers. Walk my old dog every day and have to slow down for her in order to go up the hills. Everything is good and I'm smiling.

Summer 1967 in driver's education our instructor allowed us to listen to the car's radio. First day behind the wheel I'm driving in downtown Ann Arbor and slyly looking at the co-eds. WJR radio is playing "Sgt. Pepper's" and analyzing it. I had lost interest in the Beatles a couple of years before but this album made me think.

"When I'm 64" started playing now here I'm trying to concentrate on traffic, co-eds and now the lyrics of the song. I though to myself "64, that's like a million years away."

64 was three years ago. Wasn't that far off!

One X3 bypass January 98 I was 45, shoulder surgery February 15, various aches and pains, hip pain, asthma, left eye floater. But you know what, each day is a gift.

Focus on the positive. And happy birthday.

I'm 72 and feel pretty darn good considering. I keep the farm going but it does take longer than it used to. I figure on 3-4 hours of pretty decent work each day and that is about it for me.

Hey, that ain't bad.

65 pretty soon. Overall health is pretty good. If my old life crisis toy (BMW S100XR) does not snuff me, I figure I have 10 years left.

I'll be 80 in late November.

Apparently Jim Shugart and I are twins separated by birth, as I long suspected.

You fellow oldsters, you could do what I just did--get baptized in the Jordan River and be born again!
As Captain Kirk said at the end of TWOK (IIRC):
"I feel...YOUNG!"

Well, actually I feel sick, but I'll get over that.

I turned 71 last week. It's okay and sure beats the only other way to go that there is. Also my Mom just turned 94 this summer and my Dad will be 96 in January, so I come from good stock. Smile

I will turn 71 next week and I too have my share of health problems. However I am hoping for many more birthdays. I have seen a lot of people younger than me that I used to work with in the obituaries.

68 here, my dad used to say “gettin old ain’t for sissies “ and “every day that you wake up on the green side of the grass you done good”. Now I know what he was talking about, arthritis (both RA and OA) kidney failure, glaucoma.

My father died at 64 when I was 23, and at the time I thought he was old (he certainly acted the part). Now, at 55, I don't think it was very old at all. 7 of my 12 siblings have lived longer than him, the oldest being 72.

My mom lived to be 92. Her mother died at 74, her father at 94, and she always said she wanted to split the difference and live to be 84. But once she got to 84, she decided she wasn't quite ready to go. She was physically active into her late 80s and mentally active until close to the end. Her remaining sister is 91 and still spry, active, and quite a card. Age is just a number, being elderly is just a state of mind.

Oh, and Happy Birthday.

Damn, getting old sucks. Coming to grips with your mortality seems come more to the forefront each year once you pass 70. Live your life to the fullest of your capabilities, as these seem to wane pretty quickly. I wish I could do a lot of the things I was able to do when I was 60, but that ship has sailed, so I just try to make the most of every day I blessed with at this point.

Men fight for liberty and win it with hard knocks. Their children, brought up easy, let it slip away again, poor fools. And their grandchildren are once more slaves.

I'm 77 and just had bypass surgery. For some time now, I have said to friends, the problem with this age is that, if you show up in the obituaries one morning, no one is surprised.

Dude!!!!!! WJR Really?????

You brought back memories of years gone by. I remember WJR from our time in Ann Arbor (we left in 1974.

Back to this thread. I just attended my 40th High School Reunion (Madeira, Ohio). I do believe time has been good to me, compared to some others. There was however, one girl who found the fountain of youth. She looked just as she did in High School.

I am looking forward to 60 and 70.

I turned 69 this month. My father, grandfather, and great grandfather all died before they were 70. On the good side, I have already outlived all three of them, so I am hopeful I'll pass the 70 mark and keep going for a while. It would be a first for my father's side of the family if I hit 70 plus. Two out of three died of prostate cancer. I have been aware of that and have pursued an anti-cancer diet for over 20 years. Done a lot of reading on it. There are a few supplements like Beta Sitisterol and lycopene which have shown some promise. No megadoses. Just modest doses. Last PSA was .7, remarkably low for a guy my age. So maybe I can beat heredity and die of something else! I worked until age 66, then retired. I used to see a DR maybe twice a year before I retired. Now I average 1 - 3 DR appts a month. Heart DR, Chiropractor, eye DR etc.
