Same here for the same reasons post surgery.

My wife has been using the neilmed squirt bottles for over 10 years since she had brain surgery come in through her sinus cavity. It's kept her allergies well under control, and she uses the bottle twice a day. She says that keeping up with it prevents some of the clogging she would have normally gotten from colds from occurring in the first place.

Is the tap water by you not treated by the municipality? Year V

I use the little blue plastic tea pot. It doesn't help much if you just dribble it through from one nostril to the other. You've got to really snort it up into your sinuses to get them clear. The first time I tried it a huge glob of bloody, black stuff came out. Must have built up for years.

My wife uses one regularly. Please boil your water. Even after treatment by a municipality, you can still get a brain eating amoeba. I'd boil it first. ________________________________________ -- Fear is the mind-killer. You can't go home again |
I used to get sinus infection every fall. They would basically last till December, it was awful. Nettie pots helped a lot to relieve symptoms but I would end up with clogged ears and pain and on Steroids which created more problems. My ENT prescribed me Dymista during my last one 3 years ago. Now when fall comes around and I start to get stuffy, I immediately use the Dymista spray for a few weeks and it passes. It's really helped me to avoid the infection entirely. --------------------------------------- Life Member NRA “If you realize that all things change, there is nothing you will try to hold on to. The directions say to use distilled water.

You can't go home again |
Distilled is best but it's better to use warm water rather than room temp. Also, I have one that has a pre-filter built into it that actually allows the use of tap water. It's worked fine with warm tap, I'm still alive. --------------------------------------- Life Member NRA “If you realize that all things change, there is nothing you will try to hold on to. I use this. I fill it with water that I heat up from my RO system. I have been using it for the last 14 or 15 years. Works for me.http://www.hydromedonline.com/hp.html

I don't use the neti pot as often as I should. But when I do I use the recipe from this site. It's nice to be able to make a gallon and keep it ready to use. http://www.advancedentandaller...ncient-practices.pdf Makes 1 gallon: 1 gallon clean water 8 teaspoons baking soda 8 teaspoons salt (preferably a quality sea salt, non-iodized table salt, or Kosher salt) Mix ingredients together until well mixed. If stored in a clean, air tight container, the mixture should be acceptable to use for up to 1 week. These go to eleven.

I keep a can of Simply Saline in the shower. A little pressurized salt spray and steamy shower works well. Plus, I get the Menthol.... that’ll open ya up! -- I always prefer reality when I can figure out what it is. JALLEN 10/18/18 https://sigforum.com/eve/forum...610094844#7610094844

I've used a neti pot before, and I'm sure I was doing it wrong because I felt like I was waterboarding myself. I've been meaning to look into this lately as I've had all kinds of sinus problems this past year, so thanks for posting this and thanks to the respondents. NWS for profanity, and it's not at all helpful to the OP's question, but it's relevant and I think it's funny, so, a dubbed parody of the Navage infomercial: ______________________________________________ Carthago delenda est

Yes! Always down for saving a little money. That article goes on to proportion the recipe down to a pint=16 oz water:1t baking soda:1t salt. Year V

After decades of meds, Neti Pot, and spray irrigation bottle I've gone to the Navage system. It has been more effective for me and greatly reduced the frequency of sinus infection and the need for medication. There is a learning curve but once mastered it is quick and comfortable. I ALWAYS use distilled water.
