The game of Risk also accurately portrays how difficult it is to hold land in that region.

My wife cannot stand the allure of holding the European and Asian continents. I stronghold Greenland and Brazil. Try my best to get and Hold Australia. Launch a 2 prong assault from Alaska and Australia. Get to garrison her forces in the Far East. Going so far as to bleed her by using up my Australian forces. I then hit from Greenland and try to work my way in to Africa and take it if I can, bleed her and fall back to Brazil if needed.

Lots of two-bit dukedoms and principalities, Lichtenstein and Luxembourg are the last remaining.

You can also look at it as, they've been fighting for so long, they've had it. If there's one thing to appreciate about the EU, is since WWII and it's creation, has been the longest period of peace Europe has ever had. Something the UN can't claim.

- Those Pyranees Mountains kept Spain isolated for a long time until...
- Thought Napoleon (France) had a lot more land in Central Europe

I'm really surprised that the number is as high as 268. I guess it does depend on how you define war, but I probably would have guessed less than 100 in recorded history. I would also guess that less than 20% of the people in the US know this.[/QUOTE]

You are WILDLY optimistic! Unless there is a decimal error in your "20%", I think much less than 2% have any concept... more likely less than o.ooo2%
