Very cool the amount of very small countries 1530 to 1700 in the Germany area of Europe is amazing. Thanks for sharing ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ

The eastern France and Germany regions were sure a mess for a long time. Interesting. ________________________________________________________ "Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil." Doug Patton.

The notion of “country” has certainly evolved in all this time. A lot of those were city states, principalities, depending on who married who, whose children lived to maturity, which alliances were formed and/or broken, or both, the popularity of the Pope, and which one, from time to time. I spent a good part of the spring reading about this stuff in “The Complete Story of Civilization” which included a great deal more than just Europe, and just ~1000 years, but even so, you needed to keep a score card to see who was in charge of what and where. Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me. When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

My mother was born and raised in Germany. English is her second language. Last year she got a DNA ancestry kit for Christmas. Results come back Eastern European. She was a little pissed. This video explains why the generic test results. There is no way you could narrow down anything in the area of Germany.

Neither Germany nor Italy were "countries" in the modern sense until about 1870. Prior to that they were a collection of small principalities, usually at war with each other.

If you go back to about 1450 or so, then even Spain and France were a bunch of smaller entities. -.-. --.- -.-. --.- -.-. --.- -.-. --.- It only stands to reason that where there's sacrifice, there's someone collecting the sacrificial offerings. Where there's service, there is someone being served. The man who speaks to you of sacrifice is speaking of slaves and masters, and intends to be the master. No doubt. And watching that video and reading Machiavelli's 'The Prince' will make a lot more sense. ------------------------------------ Proverbs 27:17 - As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.

I believe in the principle of Due Process |
In 1968, Will Durant said that “in the last 3,421 years of recorded history only 268 have seen no war.” What else did they have to do, if you were a big shot whose food and clothing and palaces were taken care of? Sit around and play war, covet your neighbor’s land, his mistresses, thumb your nose at that upstart Pope and his mistresses, redress the insults to your uncles, keep the other guys peasants stirred up, etc. There was no TV, no video games, no baseball or football, or basketball, DJs. Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me. When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. I'm really surprised that the number is as high as 268. I guess it does depend on how you define war, but I probably would have guessed less than 100 in recorded history. I would also guess that less than 20% of the people in the US know this. “Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.” - John Adams

I believe that counts anything in the world, whatever could be known about. Maybe it is similar to the Supreme Court Justices’ rule of drinking only when it is raining. It was bound to be raining somewhere! Also from Durant, “Civilization exists by geological consent, subject to change without notice.” Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me. It also explains why we shouldn't trust those war like European's to give advice about what we should do to promote peace. Of course we're mostly a nation of European descent, so its no wonder we seem to be at war perpetually. I'm too old to put on boots and go stomping around someplace else. I have no interest in their war or peace. I do like to go out to dinner, but only within a few miles of the place I call home. Unhappy ammo seeker

Very cool visualization of European warfare! The game of Risk also accurately portrays how difficult it is to hold land in that region.
