When I used to work for a pharmaceutical software company, part of my job was to install and fix Lexmark printers for mom and pop pharmacies. Just think of the amount of paperwork being printed. They were tanks. Of course everything breaks at one point or another but most of the mechanical issues were due to aftermarket toner cartridges.
If I were to buy a printer I would consider a Lexmark.

I found that the newest printer driver for an old Epson bricked it, effectively, by requiring the use of Epson cartridges. So, I would certainly look for a tank-fed printer.
