Thanks Smile

I've been back in here, now and again, for a month or two. Thing is: I've been so laser-focused on a couple problematic computer builds (server/desktop and laptop), a couple software projects, a Starlink install out in the middle of nowhere, etc., that I haven't had much time for on-line socializing.

I probably shouldn't offer to take the reins for a forum that's looking for a new Admin & hosting service, should I?

A good reason to have a good PW manager.

I had my account locked on another forum due to a stolen identity- I hadn’t posted anything for sale in years.

Remember if you set up the two-factor identification it is tied to your device, so do not dispose of that phone or whatever without disabling it. This is what I understand. A computer savy person here can correct me.

I had my account hacked briefly in the Rolex Forums a few years ago when I mistakenly clicked on a link of a watch trade offer; the site administrator restored my account but unfortunately a member paid for a watch, believing it was me. I understand they have software that can steal your log in information by one click so do not ever click on links sent by email.

Depends on the type of 2FA. Obviously not true of text messaging—unless you change your phone number.

If you're using an authenticator app of the kind I previously described it may have the ability to export/import the "keyring" it uses. 2FAs does.

But there is a caveat: If you export it without password protecting it, it's in a kind of "clear text" state where, if somebody can snag it, they then have the exact same authentication keys you do. If they know your other login credentials they can impersonate you.

Moral of the story: Remember to export your authenticator app "keyring" and password protect it as you do. Make it a good one and don't forget it.

Again: A password manager is advised.

Autofill, so yeah, I have it & could look it up, but I also stay logged in.

Somehow yesterday my AT&T Yahoo email got comprised and it has a strong password. It is my display password here but I doubt it had anything to do with this. It was a pain to recover.

I have now also changed my Gmail password which is associated with the forum and also changed my forum password to a strong password.

Yes, this got my attention and I changed my password, too.

I sold a thing or two not long after I joined, and rarely buy anything nowadays, but I don't want to help the buggerheads doing this stuff to our friends.
