Got a message from my work IT dept. to do this ASAP. https://www.engadget.com/chrom...ploit-004822391.html Easy... If you use Google Chrome, please update it now. • Open Chrome • Click on the three dots in the upper right of the Chrome screen • Go down to Settings • Scroll down to Safety Check and click on the Check Now button • Chrome will give you a notification that it has updated.

Note that this goes for Brave (and other Chrome-based browsers) too.

Thanks, just did the update, took less than a minute for the whole process (and I'm pretty lame as far as tech).

Brave doesn't have the referenced version of Chromium included yet. Brave is using Chromium 88.0.4324.146 and the article is referencing Chromium 88.0.4324.150.

OK, so I didn't read the versions closely, based my previous post on my understanding of Brave's general origin. Apologies to the Brave fanbois out there. However, apply the Dilbert Principle: what is more likely? That this particular zero-day existed in Chromium prior to 88.0.4324.146, or was introduced between 88.0.4324.146 and 88.0.4324.150? Also, I see that the update does not change the version markers in either browser.

That's probably your provider redirecting/proxying your query rather than a link intrinsic to your Chrome instance.

Does this exploit affect Mac and Android devices, or only Windows? Ladies and gentlemen, take my advice - pull down your pants and slide on the ice. ʘ ͜ʖ ʘ

It would have really been great to get some sort of basic overview as to the threat(s) involved, and/or why this update is necessary. Just sayin'. ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. Every man should have several guns. And several dogs, because a man with a cat is a woman. The article linked in the OP includes this link that has additional information, and additional links to even more information for the curious. Yes, Mac and Linux implementations of Chrome are affected by this particular vulnerability. It is a "heap buffer overflow," something that generally allows the attacker to run code of their own choosing with elevated privilege (e.g. as root/administrator).

Brave just updated. Current is now: Version 1.19.92 Chromium: 88.0.4324.152 (Official Build) (64-bit) This "skips" the offending chromium version ending with ".150" Certifiable member of the gun toting, septuagenarian, bucket list workin', crazed retiree, bald is beautiful club! Reading between the lines, it seems they are aware of one specific group that may be exploiting the vulnerability (North Korea) but they don't want to give details so as not to initiate a free-for-all to exploit the vulnerability while a lot of people still hasn't updated.
