Maybe he's prepping for a run at governor or something.

Know that some us are jealous and would trade our skillset for yours.

I used to have skills, now I just watch paint dry for a living.

I do have a couple of forum members on my team though, so we can talk guns while we watch paint dry...

Hayworth was a former Fox affiliate sports reporter before winning a seat in Congress. He considered running for the AZ Governor in 2006 against Janet Napolitano, but decided to stay in Congress. He lost the election in 2006 to Democrat Harry Mitchell (former Tempe Mayor).

Hayworth really didn't do anything of significance in Congress so he's probably in the best job suited for his skills right now.

Absolutely this. I also have moments of weakness but always try and teach my.son never look down on anyone working for a living. They are being productive members of society and not everyone is lucky enough to have what the rest of us consider a "good" job.

Many probably look down on me for my blue collar job.

I guess this goes to show that anything can be controversial on the internet. The irony is lost on so many that they can't see past this being some sort of an insult to the working man or something.

I wonder, when AOC is sent back to tending bar, if there will be such deep reflection about the working man.

I feel like there are probably others in Congress that doesn't even has Hayworth's skill sets.

I don’t think anyone is really looking down on him from what I read. I think it’s more of seeing a personality that you used to see on tv in person working a normal job. If he was in Congress he’s not working for the money or healthcare so that makes it a little more odd mainly because of all the “connections” you make while in office. Most of these types have a lot of options once their political careers end. I don’t know if the guy maybe he was one of the honest ones (haha) and he doesn’t have any favors coming his way.

It’s amazing how many politicians with a 10 year career making $150k a year amass huge fortunes.

Walmart would not hire my congressman, he's not trustworthy enough and is so arrogant that he would drive customers away.

I've been a plumber for 50 years, started working for my Dad when I was 12. You would not believe how many customers look down on me.

Guess what, when those assholes need me, I don't have time to help them with their problems!

As Mike Rowe confirms, people like me are going to evaporate, let them fix their own problems!!

I've run into a lot of retired people that still want a job on their terms (certain days a week, certain amount of hours, etc.) to keep busy or out of the house and don't need the money. Some jobs due to their nature attract retirees. I would think he gets healthcare from his congressional work and a pension. Sounds to me like he just likes greeting people......or perhaps Costco hired him to attract people.....

In college I worked at a marina with a fuel dock, and everyone worked 3-12 hour shifts a week, the dockmaster was a retired Aerospace engineer with a nice pension....One of the dockhands was a retired Union leader for a stevadores union for a shipping port up North.....of all things......the stories he'd tell.

That’s my story. We’re not rich but unlike one of my jealous ex-coworkers thinks I’m not picking up cans on the side of the road to eat. We are doing just fine,I work part time doing what I want now. I’ve been Offered full time work several times, each time my answer is thanks but no thanks.

I’ve been out of work since the end of October, the motorcycle shop I worked at closed. Just got called about part time at another shop, somewhat of a drive but I’m considering it.

I certainly wouldn't look down on anyone doing an hourly, retail job. Those folks are my every day customers. Hell, most of my customers are in far worse shape than those folks. I was just surprised to see him at Costco. I don't think he lives anywhere near the place, as his district was pretty far away from this store, as far as I remember.

And if this were some kind of publicity stunt, like when Max Baucus would bag groceries or dig ditches for a day during campaign season, I'd expect there to be a staffer and photographer nearby. But I really think he was working there as a real job. I will keep any eye out for him and talk with him next time.

In an aside, the first time I met him was at the RNC Convention in San Diego in 1996. At that time I could barely afford to eat and actually got ahead from the per diem I got by working the convention, but still eating for free at all the hospitality suites. I remember running into JD while we were both jogging and thinking, "Wow. What's life like when you make $150k + per year and have all expenses paid?" I hung out with Newt Gingrich and Wayne LaPierre later that same day.

Oh, those were the days.

Rick, had to go to Camelback Toyota today for service. Stopped in at the Costco on Beardsley. Guessing this is where you go.
I was hoping to see him, but no luck. Not there today, at least when I went.
You do have a damn fine selection of watches, but the seafood selection isn’t that great.

Anyways, would have been cool to see him. I remember him from long before politics when he was a sportscaster on the local Phoenix news station.

Yes, the Beardsley/Cave Creek/101 store. That's closest to my house, but I think there are a few closer to JD's.

Traffic sucks there. Damn construction. Had I known, I’d have gone over to the one at PV Mall on Cactus. We were there last week and it’s a damn fine store. Watches aren’t as good though.
