No real reason for the question, just curious.

Started saving earlier.

I waited till I was in my 30s before I got serious about saving for retirement. I told my kids to start saving 10% of whatever they make, starting with their first paycheck.

Made more money and invested it in a more diversified manner. Big Grin

Bought a few pieces of property that at the time I thought, “I’ll get around to that later.”

Still can’t complain, but yeah there are a few woulda, coulda, shoulda, but didn’t things out there.

I'm following this thread as I intend to retire in 3.25 to 5.25 years.

As others have stated, started earlier and saved more.

I wish I’d traveled more and explored new hobbies. It’s easy to get caught up in routine and miss out on life experiences.

Put my wife up on a higher pedestal. I haven't retired yet but dang, looking back that girl was instrumental in our success.

I wish I had bought the property and dilapidated house next to me for the fraction of a price it sold for. I had the tools and the skills to fix everything that needed fixing. Materials and sweat equity would have probably quadrupled my money at a minimum.

Just because something is legal to do doesn't mean it is the smart thing to do.

Not at all. I started maxing out my 401k and IRAs in my 20s. I'm merely looking for nuggets of what people wish they had done their last few years of working.

Like others, saved more, spent less but I had a lot of fun so...

MAIN thing is I wish I'd gone to the VA for an disability appraisal the day I retired from the Navy. It would have made my life a LOT simpler 20 years down the line.

Saved all the contacts from my work phone/computer account, not just the ones I thought I'd need/want.

Keep finding myself going "Damn, wish I still had X's email/number!"
