I collect books on Africa in the period of about 1850 through 1963 when the continent shrugged off colonialism. Most of my titles are long, long out of print. I also have added books on the Rhodesian Bush War, a subject a member here started my interest in when he generously loaned me his copy of The Elite. __________________________ Writing the next chapter that I've been looking forward to.

I love that stuff, and I used to fish freshwater when I was young, fantastic memories. Fishing with some of the pieces would be icing on the cake. Lover of the US Constitution Wile E. Coyote School of DIY Disaster

I have to say this is probably the winner so far in terms of rare, interesting, and special, considering how hard those are probably increasingly hard to come by. Not to mention the presentation, very cool. Lover of the US Constitution Wile E. Coyote School of DIY Disaster

I have a nice collection of classic hunting, adventure explorers, African Hunting literature of contemporary and previous century professional hunters, classic heavy rifles for African and Alaskan large game, mostly hardcover books, all non-fiction. I tried selling one of them on Ebay to test the market but the current generation doesn't seem to be interested but I'm not sure. It might be a book thing, since most young people no longer read physical books. It looks great on the bookshelf but I'm in the downsizing phase. Lover of the US Constitution Wile E. My wife would say that I collect an eclectic variety of junk. Some of it comes from my sister and I being the sole heirs to several previous generations of small families, so we get "stuff" when someone passes away. I have an amateur collection of currency, both US and foreign.

If you want to send me a list of your African stuff, I'd be interested in seeing if you have things I'd be interested in adding to the collection. Email in my profile. __________________________ Writing the next chapter that I've been looking forward to.

Aside from the more common interest items I have several old jacks of all sorts and a few dozen car dealership license plates. “That’s what.” - She

Lego. Usually buy two and forget about the second for a while. It usually pays for itself. It’s relaxing to work with material that doesn’t require any processing after fabricating at work.

P220cop: A few years ago we forced my sister to have a garage sale; her old friends helped out a lot. The items on sale included a couple of flats of old glass insulators. They may have sold for something like $1500; far more than all the rest of the stuff put together. So there ya go. _________________________ “Remember, remember the fifth of November!"

As a cigar smoker I have collected a few stand up vintage ashtrays. Usually anything vintage cigar related draws my attention at local vintage flea markets.

P220cop, That’s awesome. I’ve come back to your photo more than once. Would you say the examples I’m seeing on eBay for 15-20$ are fake? Seems like there would be a premium because of age and fragility. I though about picking up some to make a display for my wife, even though her first impression was that some look like miniature sex toys Nine years to retirement! Just waiting!

The insulators are cool. I know of a place that has one sitting where I can get to it. Interestingly enough, it has about twenty feet of open wire on both sides.

I got Greg "Pappy" Boyington's autograph on his book "Baa Baa Black Sheep" when I met him at Oshkosh in the late 1970's. I don't collect autographs, just that one. Not aviation, but I missed a chance to get Carroll Shelby's autograph when I met him because I hadn't expected to run into him, and left my copy of "The Cobra Story" at home. -------------------------- Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats. -- H L Mencken I always prefer reality when I can figure out what it is. -- JALLEN 10/18/18

It is far too complex to explain here, but I will point you towards this reference site. It has a ton of info on the hobby. https://www.insulators.info/general/faq.htm ************************* Chaos, panic and disorder. My work here is done........ Not everyone gets the same version of me. One person might tell you I'm an amazing beautiful soul. Another person will say I'm a cold-hearted asshole. Believe them both. I act accordingly......
