| I feel your pain. It was -7 degrees F when I got up today and while I have no plans to go outside, I’m still wearing layers inside. |

It’s 60 and sunny here in Savannah, and I’m layered up already. Billy |

| I feel your pain, born and raised in MN spent over half of my life in MN two of those years up on the iron range. Shaking doors in a town at 2:30 in morning because the chief required it even at -25 degrees and -65 wind chills. God he was a prick! But I have to say I was pre-warned by my instructors. I was getting experience so I could apply for positions around the twin cities. But my understanding it has been a relatively mild winter up there this year. With the lakes around the twin cities not freezing up too long ago. Stay warm, as you know snowmobiles run great in this weather.

| I missed it, what do you mean by shaking doors? |

| It’s 10 degrees here and I’m under a bedspread, sitting up in bed, watching TV. Thermals on, sweatshirt, with the hoodie pulled on. Thermostat is set at 69 and the heater is running steady enough for me not to up it. Fuck mobility right now. Wintry snow/sleet mix expected tomorrow so I’ll watch the bumper cars overpasses on the news manana. Best of luck to everyone during this shit.

Checking doors of businesses on Main Street making sure they were locked and secure. Also checking the bars that they were closed and no one inside were still drinking. When I was up there in the late 70s the description of Main Street back then. If you were a blind man walking down the street at 2:30 in the afternoon and the door was unlocked you made it to the bar.

-15 here (air temp) at 9AM when I put out bird seed (normally a Mrs Sigmund duty) and shoveled snow that had drifted overnight. The national media is over in Des Moines (2.5 hours west of me) for tomorrow's caucus. I doubt anyone will report from Davenport. |

It was -9F without wind-chill this morning, but I'm not going to complain. We've had a really mild winter so far. Heck, on Christmas day it was 55F and raining. Where I'm at, we didn't get the snow they were predicting. I haven't fired up the snowblower at all this season. |

| I walk every other day for exercise. Our storm was over so I did my usual walk. 13 Degrees and a little breezy. I invested in good "buy once, cry once" winter gear. If I had not, I would be trapped indoors most of the winter. The walk was quite nice.

| For super solid outdoor garments for serious cold and wind, look at what waterfowlers, winter backpackers, and winter expedition and research folks wear for baselayers, boots, and outerwear. Years ago I stopped freezing to death in the deer woods after looking at how those guys stay warm. It's not cheap, but damn it works if you have anything close to a normal metabolism. On the other hand Para's recommendation works pretty good too.

Follow the science. If hibernation was promoted and encouraged, throw in estivation and just think about how much less of everything mankind would need. My two cents.

| -41f last night w/ the windchill. Had to hide my cruiser behind a building to get out of the wind for a bit and let the heater catch up. Started to blow out chilly air not warm air. A couple minutes and it was back to normal again. |

Finally had to work a wreck yesterday, and just about froze my fingers off in the 5 minutes I was out of the car taking photos, collecting documents, and moving them out of the road. I don't think it made it to -41 wind-chill, but it was still plenty cold. We had a bunch of people calling in because they couldn't get into their house or cars because the locks were frozen up (not sure what they expected us to do about it?), and I had to back a car out of a parking spot for some college girl who couldn't figure out how to get it over the little 3" ice berm left by the plow . The lake hadn't frozen yet, and it looked like a sauna with frozen mist blowing off of it all day. Thankfully most people stayed inside so it wasn't a particularly busy weekend, and now I'm off for two days. I layered up pretty good so apart from when I needed my hands for a touch screen, it wasn't too bad. But every time I had to piss, this struggle was real! |
