Leave the gun. Take the cannoli. |
UPS and the Teamsters have been married forever - almost forever. No one is getting locked out.

Facts are stubborn things |
This is exactly why I choose FedEx when possible. I try not to support union businesses. Do, Or do not. There is no try.

If it were not for UPS there would be NO Teamster union.

They did often in the 70's and 80's. The massive hub in my town back in NJ had the drivers outside for a few days. In the end they always went back after a week while both sides played their games. I had friends on both sides. In the end it was more of a show than anything else. But they did have great BBQ's while were were called in off duty to monitor the events. Only once was thewre an issue when one of the workers tried jumping on a tractor coming in and slipped falling under the wheels. after that we set ground rules which both sides followed. But the days of the big strikes ended long ago.

Not going to happen. These are CDL drivers. Have you seen the huge shortage of CDL drivers right now? They could try to head hunt drivers from other companies, but to do it company wide would be a major challenge. Demand not that events should happen as you wish; but wish them to happen as they do happen, and you will go on well. -Epictetus

Before I retired from Fed Ex that was our biggest problem. Finding employees that could pass a drug and background check and be a legal citizen. One of the three usually prevented them from even getting hired. Then if you did find one or two after weeks or months of screening applicants it could take up to 6 months to get them through all the training classes required before they could go on the road as couriers. In the mean time they had to work as part timers unloading planes and working the morning sort. After the couriers were out of the building there was nothing left to do so they get sent home. If lucky they got 4 hours a day. Eventually they would leave for something full time before they got all the required training to be a full time courier. UPS functions pretty much the same way. In over 15 years at Fed Ex I never seen one driver leave to go to UPS even though you could make roughly $5 a hour more. Going from Fed Ex to UPS was viewed as going from the frying pan to the fire. Also there is a discussion forum related to UPS and even some Fed Ex stuff that is independent of either company. It's basically a bitch board for all the drivers and contractors. Can be interesting reading especially if you've been in the business like I have been. I can go there now and read some of the stuff and just smile! The people who Will Be replaced with automation shouldn't bitch too loudly. They'll only speed up their demise. ____________________________________________________ The butcher with the sharpest knife has the warmest heart.

Not quite, UPS Teamsters make up 18.5% of total Teamster members. 260,000 out of 1.4 million total membership.
