Mrs. AUTiger89 and I are going to a concert at the Fox Theater in Atlanta the night after Thanksgiving (Blackberry Smoke). I know nothing about the area. We're staying in a hotel nearby.

How safe is that area? Should we stay farther out and Uber in, or should we be fine there?

Phone's ringing, Dude.

The area near the Fox is referred to sometimes as the hotel district. I used to stay in that area but unfortunately I won't anymore. One time I stayed at the Westin, and I couldn't even get my family out of the car before I was accosted by beggars.
So now, when I go to Atlanta, I stay in MidTown or even Buckhead. The prices may be higher in that area and you may not feel the extra value in the price. I've stayed at the Four Seasons in MidTown and it felt like a Hilton.
Just some advice... pick your destinations and Uber/Lyft as much as possible. A nighttime stroll is not a good idea in Atlanta.

I just checked, and we're staying at the Georgian right across the street from the Fox Theater. Thoughts on that?

You’ll be fine. Just don’t stroll too far south from there.

I'd pick that over trying to Uber in. Arriving is easy. In my experience leaving an event like that is a zoo via Uber.

You're not far from Grady or Centennial park (other side of the interstate). If you're reasonably alert to situation and surroundings that will certainly help. Last time I was there with family I was literally 2 heart beats from drawing on a guy when he made the wise and correct decision to stop following us and hop the fencing into centennial park.

Grady and centennial park aren’t anywhere near the Fox theatre as far as walking distance (1.5 miles)

My wife's well to do Aunt had her daughters wedding reception there. I've never stayed there but it is pretty nice from what I hear.

The Fox is not in the hotel district. It's in midtown and not near the Westin.

The Fox is a couple of miles from Grady and Centennial. They are not the same neighborhood at all.

OP, the Georgian Terrace is very nice and is perfect for seeing a show at the Fox. Great dining options in the area amd a few good spots for pre- or post- show drinks. Email me if you have any specific questions. I've been here all my life.

There are no safe areas in the Atlanta Metro area or suburbs, crime occurs even in the most affluent areas, one of the reasons Buckhead is trying to detach itself from Atlanta. I was gone for years and only came back for family reasons. The most dangerous thing about the entire North GA area, north of Macon, are the drivers.

You will see stupidity above and beyond anything you can imagine, I have driven all 48 states, numerous countries in Europe and the Middle East. My last two Uber drivers almost got in wrecks and that was it for me.

I remember the Fox theater 40 years ago and it was nice and Atlanta still had some southern charm to it.

Just remember it is a big city now and keep your head on a swivel. I hope you have a nice time, be safe.

I can vouch for the Georgian Terrace. Nice hotel and spent the night there after our wedding. its got a rooftop pool if you are interested. Its right across the street from the Fox so its a quick walk. Breakfast is pretty good as well.

if you are thinking about it carry inside...forget about it. They had metal detectors and security going through everything last time I was there.

If you are only there for a night or two and dont plan to go walking anywhere you will be fine.

We’ve done the Fox and stayed at the Georgian Terrace, too. Very convenient and safe if you head there after the show when the crowd is around. I’d be concerned most anywhere in Atlanta if there aren’t a lot of people around. Use Uber and go from door to door if you go out.

Thanks for all the great info, all! I'm guessing that we won't be swimming in the rooftop pool in late November, ha ha.

You might. Never can tell whether November will be warm or not.

My office is above the Red lot for the Fox. You’ll be fine.

I recommend El Vinedo (South American, reservation recommended on Fox nights), Bon Ton (Vietnamese-Cajun fusion) and Papi’s (Cuban) off the top of my head for good food near.

Blackberry Smoke should be a good show.
