Yup, and my understanding is flow rate can be adjusted by grind. Finer grind slower flow, coarser grind faster flow.

stkfoxAfter going through three Keurigs in five years, wife decided we deserved a good coffee maker so as to please our morning indulgence. We received the Moccamaster yesterday and had a great cup of coffee today! The package deal included Illy Classico coffee (espresso grind). The difference is night and day. Very smooth, delicious. Kinda dangerous as I usually limit myself to just 2 cups in the morning but I could drink a gallon of this stuff.

She invested in the Moccamaster, so I’ll in turn invest in a decent burr grinder. Very glad we made the purchase!
Yet another purchase made upon the recommendations from Sig Forum.

mojojojoI picked up one on a Black Friday deal in the Fall on SF recommendations. I've gone from not drinking coffee at all a couple of years ago to grinding my coffee beans each morning and sampling coffee beans from around the world. All because of the Moccamaster and the recommendations of those in the know here!

We cheated.

Our closest coffee shop had a coffee they called “Kauii” that we like much better than the coffee anywhere else. It came from a local roaster who used a different name for it. Another restaurant in another nearby town had what they called their house blend from the same roaster that was very good. Not quite as good as the “Kauii”, but quite good.
About the time of an earlier Moccamaster thread, our closest shop switched bean vendors. In talking with the owner, it was because the new vendor’s coffee “was better”. Okay, maybe it was, but certainly not to my palette. Went to the roaster, figured out what their name for it was (“Garden Island”), and bought that. Between the Moccamaster, the grinder (each morning, only enough to new), and whatever the roaster called “Garden Island”, we were in heaven. Then the volcano(es) erupted in Hawaii and the price of Hawaiian coffee got so silly that they stopped making “Garden Island”.

Asked about it and they explained the volcano/pricing issue and shared that they had a new blend, “Trailhead” that they put together from Columbian beans to get pretty close to the flavor. It is quite good and we haven’t looked back.
The funny thing is the roaster has a cafe and with every pound of coffee you buy, you get either a free small cup of coffee or a card to get your free cup later. They typically have a dark, medium, and a light roast as well as a decaf, and rotate through their different blends. I dunno why, but their “Trailhead”, while my favorite of the coffees they serve always seems to taste burnt and never anywhere close to when we brew in the Moccamaster. If I had discovered it there, we’d be brewing something else.

doublesharpI got in on the Black Friday deal and am well satisfied. My wife picks out different brands of Columbian type coffee and I have yet to have one I didn't like. We did quit Choc Full of Nuts, seemed to be extra bitter in the Moccamaster.

CFON is my go to when I don't grind! You may need to adjust your ratio to rid the bitter taste - the MM water temperature is hotter and more brew contact that extracts better. I dialed back my ratio and figured it out.
