My company has a bunch of employees in Guadalajara and have told them to stay home/inside CEO just sent out an all company email about this and told everyone to only contact our MX colleagues if it's high-priority and that we need to reset expectations on project timelines. Gotta be pretty serious since this is first time we've ever gotten a communication like this.

I bet there are a few flight crew with some stories. Puerto Vallarta was our usual alternate for Guadalajara, and vice versa. Good alternate airports for airliners are few and far between, so if both airports close when getting close to either one, it becomes an immediate problem.

My 90 year old Uncle has a condo in PV. I contacted him today and he said he was ok and safe. The main highway in front of his condo was closed both ways for 5 days but is open now and he can go to town if needed.
He told me that he had luckily just done a Costco run the week prior and was all set with cases of water, beer and tequila!
He’s all set…

El Mencho has a rap sheet in CA. He did felony time for heroin sales and was deported. Once back in MX he was hired as a local cop. Then the cartel career began and eventually ended. MX is a broken state.
I'm headed there next week, should be interesting.

I wonder what the San Franciscans reading this story in their own woke local SF newspaper think about this illegal alien being deported? I mean he was only arrested for selling heroin 3 times. I'm sure he was just about to turn his life around and those mean ICE people deported him?
I hope Mexico can dig deep enough to make a difference on the cartels.

I saw their NG in firefights with cartel on the internet.
Some of it obtained through corrupt Mexican military/police officials.
Some of it stolen from Mexican government armories, or taken from captured/slain government forces.
Much of it sourced from other countries or black markets and smuggled in.

I have heard many stories from Mexican heritage people I used to work with that most of the best resorts in Mexico are owned by the cartels. They also reported that many people are very poor and work for the cartels just like you and I work for large corporations. Wiping out the cartels is putting many Mexicans out of work with little chance that they can find other meaningful employment. Mexico is a huge problem with no easy fix. Somethings you can't bomb/kill your way to a fix. Mexico is a problem that Mexico has to fix.

^^^^^^^^^ IDK but the Vegas casinos were once owned by the Mafia, and now major corporations.

Zero of that is my problem. Or a problem to the US. But, the cartel drugs and violence are a US problem. Coexisting hasn’t worked. Open borders hasn’t worked. Time for something else.

It's a great way to launder cash. That's why Vegas was so good for so long.

There are private security forces entering Mexico now. They going to escort Americans back. What happens why they engage cartels?

If the hotels are still there, but are owned by someone else, the tourists will still come and the locals will still have jobs.
