So what? Mick Jagger is ugly and can't sing either, and he has sold more records than just about everybody. For a bunch of guys who can't sing, they've sung for a great many people, concerts, records, for nearly 60 years. They haven't gotten any Nobel Prizes though, I'll give you that. Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me. When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. Brian Wilson was mentally ill, and sadly received bizarre treatment that did not help his condition. Hanging out with Charlie did not help. I saw them in the 1960s in Washington, D.C. | |||

Loved the Beach Boys when I was in my teens. Barbara Ann, Little Deuce Coup, California Girls - great songs that I still listen to occasionally. Then the transition came to groups like CCR, Stones, Beatles, Carlos, Jimi Hendrix, Alvin Lee. I still find it amazing how those songs trigger specific memories of my (misspent) youth.  | |||

When I was barely into adolescence, hanging out at the marina on a friend's Bertram 28, the 8-track player's "library" consisted of a couple Beach Boy's tapes. That was it. Great music for a young musician to learn music theory, harmony, chordal variations. | |||

I always loved the song Fun,Fun,Fun because when I was 15, my dad bought a 57 T-Bird, which I drove more than he did. Every time I would hear the song, I would fantasize about one day having a daughter and buying her a T-Bird. Alas, I ended up with three boys and no T-Bird. They did get to drive my Corvette occasionally. For those interested in the Beach Boys, there is a new book out. The title is Everybody Had An Ocean by William McKeen. I am currently reading it. The book covers their history, particularly, their interaction with other groups of the day as well as their relationship with Charles Manson. Pretty interesting. | |||

C'mon guys. Is Mick Jagger or Brian Wilson the greatest singers of all time? Of course not. That's not what it's about. They put together two different bands that changed the music of the times. Mick Jagger is what? Mid 70's now? He gets around pretty damn good on stage. Shoot, I know people that age that can barely get out of bed in the morning. A while back, the wife and I were channel surfing and came across a movie about the Stones tour of South America. It was called Ole! Ole! something. Anyways, it was a great movie and there was one part where Mick and Keith sat down and banged out an unplugged version of "Honky Tonk Woman". It was great in that they were just having fun with an old song. I found a link to it but sorry, don't know how to embed. Check it out if you are a fan.
