We wrote our own LLM AI automation tool where I work.
(and we have a small datacenter in one of the buildings)
We had a brilliant programmer here but lost him to a company in California last month.

I received an email this morning titled:
“Introducing The X Subscription”

“This week we launched The X Subscription, which brings together Grok, Grok Bot, Cursor, and X Premium. With the new plans, you pay the same as you do today, get more included usage per dollar, and access to:
• Cursor, our AI coding tool, with leading local and cloud coding agents.
• X Premium, with a blue checkmark, creator tools, and fewer ads. Higher plans remove timeline ads entirely.
You’ll see the option to switch in your account billing settings when it’s available to you. If you do nothing, you’ll stay on your current plan.
Read the full details, including plans and pricing, in our announcement.”

And this link:

I currently have SuperGrok. I have little interest in “X”, as SIGforum is my home on the web, but I suppose I might try it. Don’t know what kind of stuff is in there.

I wonder if Cursor, the coding tool, knows my programming language, SNOBOL4, which is rather obscure nowadays. But it probably knows BASH, my scripting language.

Serious about crackers.

Once you get into it, X is pretty good, there are bot posts, but there are in any SM access, you just have to weed them out, they do have good community notes where people can tag those posts.

Plenty of setup options, X is a really good source for reading up on news items and stories as well as sports, Tesla, Space X, just about anything....

Grok is awesome. I’ve been reading a novel, “Something Fresh”, by P. G. Wodehouse, a prolific English author. Several times a “green-baize” door is mentioned. I had no idea what it was, so:

Grok query:
‘In the book, “Something Fresh”, by P. G. Wodehouse, a “green-baize” door is mentioned. What is a “green-baize” door?’

Grok thoughts (absolutely perfect in the context of the story):
‘A green-baize door is a swing or ordinary framed door covered (usually tacked with brass-headed studs) in green baize, a coarse, felt-like wool cloth (the same material used on billiard/snooker tables).

In large British country houses (especially from the mid-18th century onward, and common in the Victorian era), these doors marked the traditional dividing line between the family’s public/living areas and the servants’ quarters (kitchens, service corridors, staff sleeping areas, etc.). The fabric provided practical sound insulation so noise and activity from the kitchen or staff side did not disturb the household, and it also helped contain cooking odors. Crossing the green-baize door meant moving between two quite separate social worlds; the phrase “behind the green baize door” became a metonym for domestic service and the staff domain.

In Something Fresh (also published as Something New), Wodehouse uses it in this conventional sense. Annotations to the novel note that the green baize door is “the traditional separation between the public part of the house and the servants’ quarters” and that the covering “acted as sound insulation.” Characters (such as Ashe Marson, who is posing as a valet) pass through it when moving between the servants’ area and the main hall or museum at Blandings Castle.

The practice was widespread in staffed households of the period; green was the traditional color, though other colors appeared later.’

I asked Grok which would work and should I upgrade and we concluded that I should stay at the $84 a year level. The only real advantage (for me) was to get access to Grok Bot. but just using the version in X is enough for my needs. and I use Grok daily. But Grok and Grok Bot are two different things.
