I don't know how. But this cell phone b.s. needs to end. Three times yesterday . Is three times too many. Honking at tham is ineffective. Twice they came into my lane and someone else was almost rear ended. Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency. Neck Ties, Hats and ammo brass, Never ,ever touch'em w/o asking first

It's not a new phenomenon. I remember when I was young and stupid, driving in my blue Ford Maverick from California to Idaho Falls, ID somewhere in the Nevada desert on a single lane highway with no median. My cigarette dropped to the floor, I bend down to pick it up between my feet, I sit back straight, and discovered I had drifted into the oncoming traffic facing a trucker who was blowing his horn on me. I remember I was close enough to see his face as I straightened up and moved back to my lane. I didn't need an iPhone to tempt death with my stupidity. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." I think if you get pinched for distracted driving you should lose your license for a few years clearly you're not competent to understand the operation of a motor vehicle

I often see PD sitting beside someone at a red light talking or texting and never see them lit up over or pulled over.

You could make driving while using a cell phone a crime punishable by death and people will still do it . Cell phones have become a real part of peoples lives and it will never change .

As much as i think making distracted driving a capitol offense would help, I would think it more palatable to go with public flogging. Ten lashes for a 1st offense would be a be a major deterrent. Too bad it will never happen in the US.

come and take it |
There are some studies that show it is as dangerous as driving drunk. I think suspending licenses is perfectly warranted for distracted driving. I managed a fleet of buses and bus drivers for 15 years. I had no patience for it for my employee drivers. I had a rule, if they were in the driver seat I did not want to see a phone. If they were on a break, they had park, get out of the driver seat and go sit in the back to check messages. I have a few SIGs.

There are laws against it, just like there are laws against driving under the influence. And people still die because of these assholes. ![]() Q

If safety on the roads was the most important thing I believe this would be fairly easy to solve going forward. It would also be a massive cottage industry in bypassing what I am about to propose. Cars should have the ability to jam cell phone signals while in D that aren’t GPS or 9/11. I’m sure it would take some engineering but it is a solvable problem if we had the will to solve it. Which we don’t. We like streaming services. We like to text. We like to talk. We like to film stuff. It’s all distracting, it’s all dangerous while operating a vehicle, and the pushback to ban, basically all cellphone use in a car, would be massive. Just in response to that statement wild pushback will be generated. What about passengers? What if it’s important? What if, what if. I fall in the anecdotal camp that distracted driving, primarily from phones, is more dangerous than drunk drivers. At least they are trying to pay attention. What is the magic number of road deaths before child proof caps are mandated? I don’t know because we seem to accept the current number and act like there isn’t possibly any solution. Pick the problem and I bet there is a solution.

I’m annoyed by the increasing number of delayed departures from traffic lights. If you can’t stay aware of the change of lights then stay off the phone. When a horn finally sounds, they make the jump to light speed as if that makes up for it. It doesn’t. Traffic can’t compensate for the delay. You’re a lying dog-faced pony soldier

Wait for it, "what about passengers and kids on iPads" they aren't driving why should they be restricted from access. Can you imagine modern day parents having to talk to their kids, and what trip isn't fully completed without having kids fighting in the back, having to separate them, playing the quiet game, slug bug, I Spy, Parents and kids these days....

Oh yea. Here’s the thing. Most problems have solutions. Download movies and games before the trip starts. They can play to their hearts content. Or have them read a book, color, play I spy, etc. Easily solved. What’s next? Lol

Sometimes it’s due to what’s inflicted on drivers in the name of Progress. I recently got a new car after 25 years with the previous one, and something that I find very annoying, and even potentially dangerous for how other people use it is the substitution of a large, cluttered touch screen with a slew of icons I never use for a few simple manual controls. Rather than just moving a mechanical lever or dial to change a heating/ventilation setting, it’s necessary to find and press a sequence of buttons that are mixed in with many others. And don’t get me started on the blinding reflection from the plastic screen when the sun is in the wrong position. ► 6.0/94.0 To operate serious weapons in a serious manner.

True but they enforce DUI, get caught and it'll cost big $$$ plus your life will be hell for a while. They choose not to enforce cell phone talkers while driving, hell I see policemen talking on their phones while driving. Anyone can look around and see hand held phones being used. It's harder to see up high in the cabs of big trucks but when I look probably 1/3 are on their phone. No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

Yup. This should be the exact same punishment as DUI/DWI, 100%. Have a team of officers, 2 to a squad car. One drives, the other films. Catch people distracted, looking down, get the footage, bam, instant arrest! Same punishments as drunk driving. We’re all sick of this shit. Nobody is doing anything about it either. What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

The police dressed up as highway workers and ticketed those on their phones at a busy intersection. It raised a condierable amount of money and changed the behavior. It was a main route to a private school.

That was a good idea. Hell if they were in their police uniforms many drivers on their phones wouldn't even pay attention. On most motorcycles you sit up higher than cars so it's really easy to see everyone on their phones. That's what some of our motorcycle cops should be doing, like this one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAQkeDoDg4w No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

It’s pot, meds, alcohol, and/or lack of brain function. No way more than 1:10 people work any given day. The other 9 are out all day killing time, brain cells and other drivers. “That’s what.” - She
