Not sure if they have fixed this problem going forward but my friend has a 2012 RAM that has had the valves replaced at least three times under 200K miles.
Something was a well known issue due to it shutting off parts in engine to save gas.
It's as much as I know but it has caused him lots of grief due the massive expense each time ~ $5K+.
YMMV

New 2024 RAM 2500, 4x4, Crew Cab, Big Horn, 6.4 V8, $52k: Link. The price they show, $50k, included a bunch of rebates you probably don’t qualify for.

Getting the 2500 saves you from finding a 1500 with the exact right options to let it tow more than 8,500 pounds. It also saves you from worrying about exceeding the 1500’s GVWR while towing with the family and stuff in the truck. The 2500 with the 6.4 is rated to tow over 14k and has a 2,900 pound payload.

The Big Horn doesn’t have leather, so get some Katzkin for it. I don’t know what other bls and whistles you’d give up with the Big Horn vs the Laramie.

If you really plan on camping with the family and a travel trailer, I would not get a 1/2 ton. You’re going to overload it. I have a picture somewhere of my truck and travel trailer with 1 ATV, 5 bicycles, 3 kayaks, and the poop wagon in the truck bed.

3/4 or 1 ton SRW is the way to go.

We’re extremely happy with our 2021 Ram Rebel Crew 4x4 with the 5.7L etorque and tow package. It is rated for towing 11,060lbs. So far it has been an excellent vehicle and replaced a 2013 Tacoma.

Well, I can kind of understand why.

Look, they’re the sports car of pickups - very ballsy, quick-handling for what they are. They’re also a very roomy cab, and a comfortable ride. I like that mine has air ride and I have auto-adjusting aero mode on the interstate, and selectable ride height for off-roading. However, the eco stuff and low oil pressure make for lifters that go bad, and if you don’t get to it fast enough, you’re into an upper engine rebuild. That’s not even getting into the essentially exposed “Totally Integrated Power Module,” and my rear driver’s window rolling itself down when it rains. A couple weeks ago when it was raining, I had to get something I had left in my truck, and when I closed the door, the horn honked.

Chrysler has steadfastly chosen to deny some of the known issues with these trucks, and honestly, had I know I would’ve dropped six grand on an engine rebuild a few years into owning it, I would’ve bought something else. That said, I’m still on the fence about parting with it because I like it, even in spite of all those… quirks.

I found some pictures.

These first two are our 10,000lb travel trailer:

The spousal unit decided carrying kayaks and bicycles in the living area of the RV was unacceptable which lead to the trading in of the 10,000lb travel trailer a year later, watch the balloon:

Raise your hand if you knew what was going to happen with the balloon. Wow, they were small at one point.

I was using a Blue Ox weight distributing hitch with the travel trailer. Those are 1,500lb bars, they bent on that trip. I got the 2,000lb bars and they did not bend.

Might I ask why you're replacing the Tacoma? I've been debating one for a while. Curious if you're having an issue or if it's a cab space or trailering concern leading to your decision...
Thank you,
James
