Dishwasher shopping

We are getting a new kitchen and my wife wants a dishwasher. We have the cabinets ordered and have the space designated for a 24" built in dishwasher. What are we looking for spec wise? I'm thinking stainless tub but what else? Food processor, automatic filter cleaning?

I like Whirlpool's silverware caddy on the door to free up rack space.
Low noise is a plus.
Are there rust free racks available?
Inductive touch buttons or actual buttons? The plastic covered ones we had before cracked/split on a stove we had before and i would like to stay away from them.
Also a reasonable price point would be helpful.

We have a KitchenAid. Appliance Brad recommended per our requirements. Been a good unit. Might want to at least look at them. Have no idea if they make one to meet yours. Been happy with the brand. Good luck.

I had to replace mine a few months ago and went with a Maytag (MDB4949SDZ) after much research.

So far we really like it. It is quiet, does a really good job cleaning and has enough option to serve us without any craziness we will never use.

The only issue we have had was a wood spatula and plastic handled steak knife falling out of basket and burning/melting on the coil...100% human error

The best Bosch you care to afford.
Ours is awesome and whisper quiet!! No joke the only time one can hear it is when it is pumping out the water and the sound is heard from the sink drain. One has to put their hand on the door or ear very close to hear it run.

Some complain about the drying as there is no heating element in the bottom so no burning of dishes like happened to the poster above. But as long as it is full of jet dry rinse aid it dries just fine.
Also if you leave dirty dishes in there for very long it stinks quite horrendously (especially with whey protein smoothie cups in there) but once you run it the smell is gone and does not linger in the dishes.
I am guessing there is no airflow in there since it is so quiet that causes the smell prewash.

Bosch, ours works great, as Black said, quiet, you rarely can tell it on, since our great room and kitchen are open between the two we needed a quiet efficient machine, did the same with the disposal, now I just need to get the wife to stop talking during my shows...

I actually looked at Bosch and the only reason I did not go that route was they were slightly smaller inside but the whole drying rack thing would have saved me a stinky kitchen!

Miele. The local store recommended them over Bosch, and they were about the same price. And yes, they had them both in stock. Maybe they make more on Miele. But we would buy Miele again.

I know several people with Bosch, and they all like them.

If you want to buy an American brand, then buy whatever Brad says.

If we ever have to buy another one, it will probably be another KitchenAid. Our current one has been flawless for many years.

We put Bosch in our homes.
Very quiet and ours has a heater so the dishes etc. come out very clean.
We've had them for over 5 years without. Any issues.

I asked Appliance Brad for dishwasher recommendations about 2-years ago. He recommended the Maytag, Model MDB8969SDH. Great washer, SUPER quiet. I would recommend this brand/model.

Just did this - went with Miele.

Cutlery tray at top saves a lot of space.
Very quiet and does great job cleaning.

Made in Germany, and they make a lot (most) of their own components.
Good warranty as well (5 yr on some series).

They are only brand recommended by a glassware manufacturer (although that could just be marketing).

I will mention that a family member bought the bosch and have been completely unhappy with it. I cannot say what the issue's were. But I know they will never buy another one.

I only mention this since several have said how great they are.
Not all owners are as enthusiastic about them.

We purchased a high end Bosch six months ago and it is a fantastic machine. Wife says she loves it. I've yet to use it.

Friend and family have higher end Kitchen Aid that seem to work well, nicely featured and quiet.

I've had a mid-end Bosch for the past 10 years or so and would definitely buy again. +1 on Black92's post.

I have to dissent on the Bosch. The lack of heating element *always* leaves wet dishes. We run ours twice a day and have to wipe or set out to dry a fair amount of the load. And about 1/3 of the time the soap dispenser does not open (it's very finicky about how much you put in and we never fill it more than 1/2 way). On top of that, the normal cycle is 2 hours 20 minutes

(that may be a factor of the most recent changes in gov't standards that force using less water, but result in longer cycles). It is, however, fairly quiet and does a decent job of cleaning.

I would not, however, recommend it.
