I have a P.O. box that is at a different Post Office than the one that serves the house. I uses the P.O. Box for delivery because I am on a main road with riff-raff walking up and down it.
My subscription to a financial magazine wnet missing one month and I changed the delivery address to the house. I re upped the subscription, had it sent back tot he P.O. Box and the first issue has gone missing.
Fidelity has sent me email stating that documents they sent have been returned to sender even thought he P.O. Box address is correct.
I am wondering if I should have the investment accounts sent e-delivery. At one time, having the Post Office do a vacation hold on residential delivery was thought to be a risk as employees would give that info th thieves.
Maybe the modern day equivilant is to target account holders receiving mail from financial institutions.
I like having an official hard copy of the accounts, but not sure it is worth the risk. Or am I overreacting ?

If there is a location of The UPS Store that is convenient for you, a box there is better than a Post Office box.

The majority of mistakes made by the Post Office are simply that. Deliberate stealing is rather rare. You have choices as Vtail mentioned.

Can they be trusted? No.

Not because they're thieves, but because they're incapable of solving simple problems and hampered by terrible processes, and inadequate tools all in a wrapper of union protection and Federal laws.

You don't trust your home mailbox because of passers-by, and don't trust USPS to handle mail sent to a post office box because they've returned mail sent there....Going paperless seems to be the obvious alternative.

A private location, like V-Tail suggests, is also viable. Going paperless, though, you don't have to go anywhere to pick up mail, and you don't have to pay for a box rental.

You can always print some of the stuff you get via email if you need a paper trail.

Some of them are thieves. Here in Montgomery, AL, the main post office is rife with thieves.

Was there a forward involved? 2nd class mail doesn't forward. Most financial documents have an endorsement which returns them with the new address info.

I used to like hard copies. But in preparing to be an expat for a couple of years at least, I went to going digital. Besides the benefit of not having to physically store and organize copies, organizing digital files is way easier and I can keep several sets of back ups. If needed, I can print them.

I understand it's a preference for hard copies but you have to ask yourself, what tangible benefit does getting and keeping a hard copy of document provide you over receiving and keeping digital copies?

For security, I have sensitive digital documents stored in an encrypted volume on my hard disks. The mirror copies I have are also stored in encrypted volumes whether they're in the cloud or physical USB drives.

We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." At least your mail doesn't camp out in Palmetto, Ga.

I've had FedEx deliver packages from Japan faster than USPS can get them through this one same single only building that has no subcontracted finger pointing.

Seems they probably have a good diversity score for a town named after a roach.

My Grandpa was a Postmaster, both my parents were Postmasters, and I worked for the Post Office for two years. If you have a choice other than the Post Office (any other) take it! Will postal employees steal? Some will, just like every other organization, but a far greater problem is the system is broken beyond repair and they have a "great union". I saw people do things that would have gotten them fired on the spot any place else, but when all was said and done these folks didn't even get a slap on the wrist.

Thanks for all the replies.
I set up digital delivery for the financials.
I like the "official" statements. If an issue arises, I can see problems with providing digital copies.
Really, there is not enough security on these financial accounts. Emails can be hacked and phone numbers can be slammed/crammed. At work we had a secureID key fob with a encyrpted algorithym running on it. for added security. I know there is a cell phone app, but I would like a dedicated hardware option
