I swear i’m the only one that uses the fridge at home.
Under no circumstances will leave all of the - 6 - flat ice cube buckets empty inside the fridge yet i just discovered they are all 6 empty.

Is there a physics explanation for the vanishing ice that i am not aware or should i check myself for early dementia and poor memory?

I rather leave the flat thingy empty outside the fridge that put it back inside empty.

WTF?

Install a motion sensor camera, and trip wire on the door, record who's taking the ice and when, if you find it's you and you don't remember, see a doctor... Big Grin

Agree. Essentially, the ice is evaporating. Especially if you have a frost free freezer (cycles of defrost and freeze).

How fast are they disappearing? This should need some time.... Wouldn't happen overnight....

Ice does evaporate

I notice the older ice cubes in my ice bin do seem smaller.

There’s an answer i can live with! Thanks.

We don’t use ice cubes regularly and the last time i filled the tray must have been a year or more ago.

Should have payed more attention at school.

Years ago my stepdaughter would leave one cube in each tray so she could say
she didn't empty the tray so she didn't have to refill it. Big Grin
Yes, they do evaporate.

Easy test to find out if you're the only one using the ice cube tray.

Recipe:
  • Empty ice cube tray and set aside
  • Bring 2/3 cup water to a boil.
  • Add package of hotdogs to boiling water, cover, and simmer for 6-8 minutes.
  • Use tongs to remove hotdogs
  • Eat or throw away hotdogs (doesn't matter)
  • Allow water to cool
  • Transfer hotdog water to ice cube tray
  • Place ice cube tray in freezer
  • Wait for culprit to identify themselves via wretching and swearing

It's also a handy recipe to serve to guests you don't want to return

In frost free refridgerators your ice cubes will evaporate over time. I often wonder though, what that white powdery residue is, that is left over. Eek

Its the minerals leftover from your water.

The water/ice sublimates leaving behind whatever was in the water.

Look at your left hand. If there is a metallic substance on your left ring finger, it is likely gold and has a habit of making all kinds of things disappear. Car keys, ice, and gun funds come to mind, as items that often flee when this condition is found.............
