I purchased the speed queen washer and am very pleased. Would you endorse the speed queen dryer as well?

I bought the matching analog SQ w/d in 2017 and both have been trouble free. Going from memory here but, as I recall, A.Brad said quality of the SQ dryers was not appreciably better than other major brands but price is considerably higher. I was always a fan of Whirlpool's hamper style door on their dryers.

Same here. Matching washer-dryer 10-years ago. Mechanical-analog models.

One minor repair on washer last year.

Not sure if the quality has changed since then. The prices today are double what they were in 2016.

I've had the TC5/DC5 Classic set for almost 6 years and have been very happy with both the washer and the dryer.

Heck, they're double what they were when I got mine in 2020.

My Amana dryer which was built in the SQ plant is Searcy, AR about 25 years ago has been good but no better than a Whirlpool 29" (top lint screen model). Over the years, I've put a timer in it, rebuilt the replacement timer since it was NLA, drum rollers, element and replaced the fins in the drum. Now it has seen duty through 3 kids and us, lots of farm, work and hunting clothes. Most people would have replaced it had they not the skills and parts access that I do.
I can't fit a 29" dryer into our space for a washer dryer so I've just kept fixing it.

We must be outlier with our SQ washer and dryer. Both bought in 2017. I think the last year the top loading washer will come with a central agitator. Washer stopped filling with water a year after warranty expired. The dryer stop putting out heat 2 years after. Also, find an authorized repair service in Dallas Ft. Worth was next to impossible. Both has been sitting in the garage since. Probably try to give it another go to get them fixed or put them out for scraps/recycle.

No, they still offer top loaders with a central agitator.

I still have a Maytag that I bought when I got married back in 1987, just replaced the element for the 2nd time last year, nothing else has failed. Where I work we make the steel for GE dryer drums so I have dealt with them quite a bit. They are very quality driven.

I am potentially in the market to replace our current Whirlpool Cabrio set, which Appliance Brad recommended some 7 odd years ago. Dryer is still fine, but the washer started grinding gears when my wife was using the "Clean Washer" mode a few weeks ago. It has managed several loads just fine since then without issue.

I ran into a gentleman at a local convenience store driving a small van advertising appliance repair a couple days after the loud grinding washer noises. After a 10 minute conversation, he suggested Speed Queen. Our discussion was primarily focused on the washers. He recommended transmission driven rather than direct drive. Upon doing brief research, I landed on the following models:

Washer - TC5003BN
Dryer - DC5004BN

SQ sure is proud of them though. Any thoughts on this combo, Brad?

BTW... When I purchased appliances for our home we built in 2001, I went with Sears Kenmore. After the fact, Brad explained that Kenmore friges could be a crapshoot because they are simply rebranded. When he told me to check the serial number to see if I got either a GE or Whirlpool model, I made a special trip to the new house late at night before the permanent power was even turned on to go find out. I slept well that night knowing that I had received the Whirlpool version. Smile (Knock on wood, it is still doing the job 25 years later.)

I apologize for getting sidetracked, but wanted to convey my appreciation of all the knowledge Appliance Brad has shared with so many of us.

Those are the classic models and despite electronics to make them meet Federal energy requirements are built very similar to their washers from 30+ years ago. They are GTG.

I didn't find an email in your profile but if you post your model # and can give you some input on your Cabrio and if it is worth looking at repairing.

And thank you for the kind words.

I never even knew anything about Speed Queen until this forum. In 2021, we bought a Speed Queen front loader washer and dryer. They are amazing and we have had zero issues.

The only issue we had was the delivery people failed to uninstall all of the shipping bolts and the washer was bouncing around crazy. The company we bought it from sent technicians out twice to figure out what was wrong and they couldn’t figure it out. They scheduled to have a repair company come look at it. I called Speed Queen customer service and an actual human being in the USA answered the phone and without transferring me to anyone asked me to check an area where there were two more shipping bolts. Sure enough the high end company I bought it from failed to remove two other shipping bolts. I had to go through hell, but I got the company to replace my washer with a new one because my floor was covered in metal shavings and no telling what damage had been done by their failure. Speed Queen even had said they would replace it if the seller didn’t make it right, but I wanted the seller who also did a “professional delivery” to replace it.

I am a huge fan of Speed Queen based on my experience.

I appreciate the response, Brad. Do you prefer Transmission Drive or Direct Drive on this older SQ technology washer?

If the Cabrio causes additional problems, I may bother you with details and other advise.

Thanks for you time.

The Classics are transmission drive and that would be my choice. The other SQ models use the newer inverter drive. It's pretty vetted at this point, but more electronics to fail.
