My friend told his mother that he was a piano player in a New Orleans house of ill repute. He was a lawyer, but he wanted his mother to think that he made an honest living.

Congrats to all. You raised her right; the rest is up to her now. Best wishes.

Congratulations. The poor thing. What on earth caused her to do that, when a nice MBA and actually solving problems was so close at hand?

I joke of course. Boston University Law, class of '91.

What Bassmatic said is absolutely true. Just carry on, with a good sense of humor, and understand the game.

What did I not understand in year 1? That there isn't a "right" answer to most questions or problems. You don't know enough to know the answer. What you do have is the ability to spot all of the issues inherent in the described situation. Being able to identify the issues is the key. If you can do that, you can go find the answer even if you don't know it (and sometimes the answer is "Sorry, you're fucked...).

That is the key to doing well on exams, and it is the key to "briefing" a case and engaging with Socratic back and forth with a talented professor if you are lucky enough to have one who teaches that method. Know the facts, know the issues. If you have those two things nailed, you will do fine, as you can always find an answer.

Good luck to her.

I'm happy to be a resource if she wants to talk to a gray hair about the profession, and think I can speak for the SigForum Bar that we will be happy to support her and to help with questions she may have.

God bless, and good luck.
