After 400m asked "Do vacations relax you" https://sigforum.com/eve/forum...0601935/m/5540025125) I thought I would ask "For those who do take vacations, how long was the longest and where did you go? " For my wife and I the longest vacations we took were back in the 1990s when we lived in New Jersey. We would either drive or fly to Central Florida for two weeks. We would stay in central Florida and visit the area attractions then go out to Kennedy space center for a day. It would usually take me a few days to unwind from my hectic work schedule so by about the 4th day I was relaxed. The best part was by that time we still had 10 days left. Since moving to Florida in 1999 most of our vacations are a week long. When my in-laws were still alive we would go visit them in the mountains of Tennessee. We would also go on week long cruises or trips back home to New Jersey to see my parents. My wife and I have been kicking around the idea of either a trip to Europe or an Alaska cruise. For those we would need at least 2 weeks. The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution. Like you, back in the 90's, my ex and I took a once in a lifetime vacation to Australia and spent nearly 4 weeks traveling to most parts of the country. Although it was memorable and fascinating in many ways, it could have been better. That's part of why she's my ex. I was going to sea at the time with a work schedule of about 3 months on/three months off, so that allowed me the time to go.

When we were both working and raising our kids we would try and take at least one 3 week vacation per year. Since I retired and my wife can work remotely as she wants the longest was during Covid when we took 10 weeks to go to Alaska in our truck camper. It was epic! ------------------ Eddie Our Founding Fathers were men who understood that the right thing is not necessarily the written thing. -kkina

My longest trip away from home was to Vancouver, British Columbia for three weeks, but I was a teenager and it was summer, so perhaps that doesn’t count. My longest vacation from a job was a one-week trip to Vegas and Orange County/Disneyland back in 2013. I've done a 42 day and a 21 day road trip on my motorcycle. My recent PCH trip was 2 weeks. But most of our vacations are usually between 7 and 11 days. I expect once my wife retires, we will do longer vacations. “We truly live in a wondrous age of stupid.” - 83v45magna "I think it's important that people understand free speech doesn't mean free from consequences societally or politically or culturally." -Pranjit Kalita, founder and CIO of Birkoa Capital Management

16 days in Japan last year, best vacation ever (and relaxing "I’m not going to read Time Magazine, I’m not going to read Newsweek, I’m not going to read any of these magazines; I mean, because they have too much to lose by printing the truth"- Bob Dylan, 1965

I just returned from a 30 day motorcycle vacation and had a blast. We hauled our bikes from PA to Rapid City, SD then parked the truck and trailer and rode 5610 miles through S Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Oregon and a sliver of Washington State. We visited five National Parks to include Glacier, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Devils Tower and Badlands. We did a similar trip last year and hopefully, God willing, a trip to Colorado and Utah next year.

1 Week. Sadly. In a production environment it's about all I can do with out losing income. Last one was x2 years ago to Punta Cana. Was so good and worth it. Train how you intend to Fight Remember - Training is not sparring. Sparring is not fighting. Fighting is not combat.

Longest - 18 day mission trip to Africa with my church. Longest regular vacation - 14 days. I had just finished a big winter project season for a project on Alaska's north slope and I had worked 12 to 14 hour days 5 to 7 days a week for 4 months. I needed a vacation bad. I split the 14 days between Maui, Big Island, San Francisco, and Napa. I'm glad I did the San Fran part as it was before it turned into a cesspool with open air drug use and poop on sidewalks. I typically do 5 business days. After years of business travel (I don't business travel much any more), I need 1 or 2 days at home before flying somewhere and 1 or 2 days at home before after I return. The longest vacation that I’d taken was 10 days to Italy. We went to Rome and Florence. It was an absolutely fantastic trip. Late last year, I was getting laid off from work. I had a bunch of PTO saved and decided that I was going on a solo trip. I had received a casino offer from Holland America Lines for a free 10-day cruise from Seattle to Japan. I had booked an extra 3 days in Tokyo to explore. I was really looking forward to it. About a week before I was supposed to leave, I caught viral meningitis. Needless to say, I didn’t take the cruise and it broke my heart. I guess it all works out in the end because I was offered another position at my job.

For the last 7 years we have taken a 3 week vacation to end our summer. Split amongst Florida and Myrtle Beach. This year we whittled it down to two weeks split between Gatlinburg and Myrtle Beach. With 3 kids so far this 2 week vacation is proving to better than the three week. So, moving forward we will likely just do a 2 week summer vacation. Maybe do a week during Christmas Break. Summer of Sophomore year of High School I went on a 4 week mission trip to Pine Rudge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. 6-weeks, did a cruise with my parents throughout the South Pacific, my dad worked for one of the last steamship lines prior to containerization and they owned two cruise ships that serviced the region. Flew out to Honolulu, then sailed throughout Tahiti, Samoa, Marqueses, Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, Australia, New Zealand, New Hebrides (Vanuatu) and probably a few others islands. Had a blast, learned a bit of French and how to jump rope onboard the ship...I was four years old. As an adult, I've done a whole bunch of two week trips. One standout was the 15-day trip I took my parents to Europe in their mid-70s. We flew into Vienna Austria, visited Slovenia, then the second week went through Italy starting in Venice, Florence and then flying back out of Rome.

Before my permanent vacation (retirement). The longest vacations were two weeks. We did several of those. Three of the best: Martha's Vineyard - not the jet set version, we rented a house designed, built and owned by a 1960's hippie architect. Very small and rustic. It was at the end of a 2.5 mile sand road. No electricity, no cell service, propane refrigerator and a pull start gasoline water pump that filled a 55 gallon drum that was high in the rafters. The house was on a salt pond and we could paddle our boats over to a dune where the other side was the ocean. It was heaven on earth. Our vacation tradition was to go out for a nice meal on our last night. On this vacation we decided that the absolute best meal would be grilled seafood at the house. We were right. 30 years later and I still smile at the thought. Montana - my sister-in-law's family owned a cabin on Flathead Lake and her brother lived in Missoula. We shipped all our gear to Missoula and that was our jumping off spot. We stayed at Flathead, we hiked, we went to Glacier National Park, we camped, we toured the state. Beautiful country. There aren't many places where a crowd of folks are practicing fly casting in the town square on a Thursday evening. Lake Tahoe - same sister-in-law, different cabin. Hiking and camping were awesome. Waking up on August morning in the Desolation Wilderness to frost on the tent is an experience. I am a lucky SOB and enjoy every sandwich. Let me help you out. Which way did you come in?
