I manage tower climbers and part of their work requires them to do a video chat with the QA team. This means they are holding a cell phone 200-400' in the air showing the QA team their work. So of course we have already dropped 2....surprising they did not burst on impact but I am more concerned about my guys, any time your attention is not on the tower it could end rather badly. SO does anyone know of phone holder that can be attached to webbing and that will hold the phone securely enough that it can be pointed or adjusted to video things? I see many for the GoPro but I need something like that to cradle a phone. And that be attached or detached using one one hand.

Dewhorse, how many people nationally do you think could use a device like this? Not just your company, but all personnel that do this?

Well the National carrier we build for does 10K+ adds a year and they all do some form of video closeout. I know other carriers do as well. Figure we have 30K+ plus climbers in the states, that means 7500 crews depending on manning....2 per crew. we need a way to hold a phone without our hands....if it could hold an external battery it would be even better.

For years I have used a “Clip Hanger” on my phones attached to the bump guard case. http://www.cliphanger.com/ They don’t hold the phone in a particular position, so that’s something else that would have to be addressed, but I find them very convenient otherwise. I usually carry my phone in a pants/cargo pocket or tactical belt pouch, and the hanger makes it far easier to pull out. The hanger can also be clipped on things like belt loops and in my experience it’s very durable while being flexible for easy on/off. And of course it’s easy to attach to a lanyard of some sort to prevent dropping it if being used in a hazardous (to the phone) location. I was a little concerned about using the hanger on an iPhone 8 and Otter bump guard case with a wireless charger because it adds to the thickness, but it works fine. You probably need more than this, but at least it is an easy way to avoid drops. “I can’t give you brains, but I can give you a diploma.” — The Wizard of Oz This life is a drill. It is only a drill. If you can't find a single device for your specific application, you could combine a worn camera mount with a tripod stud and a phone case/clamp with a tripod socket. One (expensive) possibility is the Peak Design Capture Clip system. It's a metal device that clamps onto webbing (you could clamp it onto a safety harness) that has a slot that camera tripod quick-release plates slide into and snap in place. There's a push-button release for the retention to let you slide it back out, and the release can be twisted to lock it so it can't be accidentally released. It is a rock-solid piece of gear designed for professional photographers and I've used it with 5 pound plus cameras no problem. It's easy to use one handed, both snapping a camera into it and taking it out. They have a POV Kit that includes a compatible QD plate with a little 90-degree arm that connects to either a go-pro mount or a normal tripod stud camera mount (which would work with a phone case that had a tripod socket). I haven't used the POV kit. https://www.peakdesign.com/col...ts/capture-clip-only https://www.peakdesign.com/col...ips/products/pov-kit There's bound to be something specifically designed for this application out there, but I think this would work.

My wife has a thing that holds the phone securely and hangs around her neck. If you think this might be helpful I can send you photos and she might remember where she got it. I imagine that it could be threaded through a belt if you did not want to hang it around your neck. She does not climb towers. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

If your climbers wear hard hats, get a GoPro with a mount, wireless it to their phone, do video conferencing via Skype. Nice is overrated "It's every freedom-loving individual's duty to lie to the government." Airsoftguy, June 29, 2018

Contact Ram Mount, they are one of the top electronics mounting systems, from laptops to mini cameras, they have a mount for just about anything, and unless you're going to spec one camera type you'll need options for different mount holders. I'd be concerned with the safety of the climber. BTW I have a buddy that does that, he's a contractor for the Military/NASA, climbs towers, those guys are crazy... https://www.rammount.com/

I was thinking something as simple as Velcro on back of phone case, Velcro on front of hard hat. Hey, Siri, FaceTime QA. -- I always prefer reality when I can figure out what it is. JALLEN 10/18/18 https://sigforum.com/eve/forum...610094844#7610094844

Had a friend die from bleeding out on his ranch. Garmin makes a very small sat based messenger/emergency signal device. They do not cost as much as you think. Honestly, if his terrain lets the device get coverage, it really might not be a bad idea for farmers/other workers in remote areas to wear. https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/592606

Nite Ize makes a simple product that slips between the phone and protective case. It can connect to a lanyard or cable. Sold through They work well with phones, wouldn't use it with anything heavier. Available through their web site or Amazon.
