FLASHBACK: Audit Found That Tim Walz’s Administration Overlooked $250 Million Fraud Scheme

Lack of oversight from Democratic Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota’s administration contributed to the theft of $250 million from a federal food aid program, according to an audit published by the Office of the Legislative Auditor (OLA) for the state of Minnesota in June.

The scheme’s participants allegedly doctored invoices for millions of meals for children, ultimately siphoning off more than $250 million in federal funds, the OLA report found. Walz, who was selected Tuesday by Vice President Kamala Harris to be her running mate in the upcoming presidential election, claimed he was unable to stop the scheme due to a 2021 court order to resume payments — a claim the judge disputed, according%20%E2%80%94%20A%20Minnesota,the%20Legislature's%20watchdog%20arm%20said) to The Associated Press.
The Minnesota Department of Education, which fell under Walz’s purview as governor, “failed to act on warning signs known to the department prior to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and prior to the start of the alleged fraud, did not effectively exercise its authority to hold Feeding Our Future accountable to program requirements, and was ill-prepared to respond to the issues it encountered with Feeding Our Future,” the OLA audit stated.

Heather Mueller, the Minnesota Commissioner of Education at the time of the fraud, was appointed by Walz in March 2021, according to Ballotpedia.

“This is stunning,” GOP Senate Minority Leader Mark Johnson told NBC 11 Minneapolis in a June press conference. “The Department of Education and Gov. Walz have repeatedly tried to tell the public that they did all they could… but this report clearly demonstrates that was a false narrative.”

70 individuals were indicted in the case, with five convicted and two acquitted so far, according to a June report from the AP.

Walz’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Those with any doubts about JD Vance's debate skills haven't been paying attention to the way he handles himself when fielding questions at press events. Numerous times he's simply taken the gotcha questions from the hostile 'Legacy State Media', turned the tables and destroyed the 'journalist' in question with facts, usually correcting the falsehoods & implied accusations being slung his way quite effectively. He seems to thrive in the moment, leaning into the fray to dispute the accusation(s), and turn the question around, counter-punching with the truth/facts and delivering his message to the voters.

Honestly, I believe this is one of the reasons DJT chose JDV for the VP slot.

I'm confident he'll do just fine in the VP Debates, and if I had one suggestion to him it would be to accuse Walz of being a coward when abandoned the soldiers in his Battalion as they were preparing to deploy to Iraq! If he does that, I believe it will stick to Walz permanently as it will be all over the media, and ultimately a mortal wound to Dem Campaign.

It would be shocking and a huge mistake if he didn't do this.

Yup, exactly, full swiftboat on Tim Awalz. He’s a disgrace, just like Kerry was in leaving his men after three very superficial wounds, in fact insisting that he be sent home because of them.

To demonstrate her leadership, Kamala should have addressed the stolen valor issue by defending i public to say it wasn't true, it's a right wing or conspiracy or similar.

Instead, both of them fled the cameras and press. This is not how a leader acts. She's going to wait for her surrogates to respond and issue statements through surrogates.

Well, that wasn’t quite the whole quote. He did say, “my battalion provided base security throughout the European theater from Turkey to England.”

I, for one, am so impressed with his style. I am SO sick and tired of listening to politicians utter uhs and ahs and umms, speaking slowly and in circles, drawing out their Ss, and not answering the question posed. Vance, on the other hand, doesn't skip a beat, answers the question in clearly enunciated English with no fake southern or black accent, and says, "next question?". He is very refreshing and I think he'll do just fine. He just needs to lose the eyeliner. Big Grin

That's true, but I'm not sure I care any more. The Ds have used partial quotes to smear Trump and conservatives for years. So far, it sounds like one guy is behind most of the story of Walz quitting early, but it also sounds like he padded his image a bit in the way he has described actions of his unit rather than his personal experience. I hope it gets legs and more join in. At this point, we had better be ready to play dirty with the negative campaign ads.

I hope Vance gets more aggressive than this. He's being Minnesota nice in his response. Words like shameful and embarrassed aren't enough. He should be outright calling Walz a coward for abandoning his troops just before deployment and continues to be a coward by not addressing this in public.

He should be asking Walz to explain how boys can have a menstrual cycle when it's a proven biological fact that they cannot but yet he spent hundreds of thousands of tax payers dollars putting tampons in boys bathrooms in schools. Don't just point out his craziness demand he publicly explains himself. And call him a coward everyday that he does not. Get aggressive, apply pressure. No need to defend your own accomplishments make Walz defend himself.

^^^There's time. It might be wise (or the plan?) to wait until after the Dem Convention when Walz is the official nominee before going into full attack mode on him. Social Media is doing a fine job on him right now anyway...Just sayin' Wink

From his Wikipedia entry:
quote:
Walz attained the rank of command sergeant major near the end of his service and briefly was the senior enlisted solider in the 1st Battalion, 125th Field Artillery Regiment. He retired as command sergeant major on May 15, 2005. His rank was later changed to master sergeant for retirement benefit purposes, since he did not complete required additional coursework.
So, he got demoted from E9 to E8 (a retirement pay cut) because he never went to -or- completed the sergeants major academy.

^^^Not exactly...He was 'conditionally promoted' to Command Sergeant Major. The conditions and/or requirements of that promotion were outlined to him and he signed the Statement of Agreement and Certification for the promotion. If the conditions were not met, the promotion was null and void, like it never happened. His rank was revised back to Master Sergeant Major, he was NOT demoted.

Edited for Accuracy Wink

And then further changed to master sergeant (E8) upon retirement for retired benefit/pay purposes, according to Wiki.

It appears the Wiki entry might be in error - he did NOT retire as a command sergeant major?
