How lucky for you both, and what a beautiful dog. Takes about two weeks for any dog to start settling in. Then you’ll see behaviors and personality blossom. I would also avoid grain free. Dogs are omnivores. Best of luck.

Brings a smile and a tear to my eye. Looks like you found a new best friend, give him a hug from/for me.

More proof that people on this forum are some of the best folks this country has to offer.

Great looking dog there... he seems like he knows you did him a huge favor, and he will repay you with the one gift he has to give, unconditional friendship.

Did rhe microchip check end up with no owner contact or no registration? Many times a negligent owner will have a pet microchipped and never register the chip with the maker. Or a rescue or shelter will plant a microchip, and the person adopting the pet fails to register it.

Having been in your shoes with stray pets, I can agree, finding a stray pets owner can be an impossible task, You do what you can do, and you have.

My suggestion on dog food is Purina ProPlan, a brand I have used for many years. I am wishing the best for you and your new friend.

Oh, and do go online and register your dog's microchip in your name with all the contact information. This is very important.

The chip was never registered. We know when it was sold to the vet supply, but the vet supply has not returned my call nor calls from the vet who scanned him inquiring about it's journey after that.

Most shelters that microchip purchase and place microchips that tie a scan into the shelter unril an adoptee registers it.

Just strange the microchip was never registered.

But do register it for the dog's safety in the future.

Regarding your dog find question, there are only three companies that have full time nutritionists on staff, meet the AAFCO requirements, and conduct long-term feeding trials.
Purina
Royal Canin
Science Diet
Also, please look into the potential issues with grain-free foods. Some of these have been linked to heart issues in dogs.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Beautiful dog and great story. Thank you for trying to find his original home and for giving him a new one! Was great to read this after losing one of my special shelter dogs this week to lymphoma. She was also an Aussie.

All of our fur-kids are eating Victor dry food. Petfood Advisor gives it their highest rating and our clan loves it. The dogs get the Nutra Pro and the cats the Mers Feline. All are healthy and happy and we are happy with the results.

A beautiful dog. Apparently abandoned by someone moving to new housing that didn't accept large dogs. It common down here as many apartment complex levy a surcharge for unit or common area damage caused by Pets.

You are a lucky man as you will always have a faithful furry 4 leg friend. Rescued animals ever forget.
