ensigmaticNot being an Office Space aficionado (I never found it particularly funny), the commercial didn't do anything for me.

Having watched Office Space, more than a couple of times, the ad was pretty awesome.
In case for those who never seen the film, it was a satire, almost an indictment of the cubicle/office life in corporate life. IMO, a brilliant film. And an awesome ad.

ElToroHand on my bible. Years ago My company hired some efficiency consultants and they took up residency in our building for a while. If you got called to their office it was literally people saying “I have a meeting with the Bob’s” which then devolved now meaning any meeting with HR / management where the prospect of getting canned was real. Such a great movie for anybody who ever worked in a cubicle farm type office environment. Very creative, Walmart.

Av8nShooterA very good parity of the movie, “Office Space”. No relation to the TV series, “The Office”. I would have enjoyed seeing even more of the movie characters in the commercial. Did I miss the red Swingline stapler?

HerkdriverWalMart sucks but that is a damn good commercial.

trapper189Apparently, it’s the first of a series of Office Space themed advertisements. Maybe the stapler will make an appearance.

No, it wasn't there. They blew their budget getting the real Michael Bolton. They should have included Milton(Stephan Root).

West Coast has nothing to do with it.
The entire ad is one big reference to the cult classic comedy film "Office Space" from 1999.
So if you've never seen that, it wouldn't make sense.
Well, I guess that explains a lot.

Spiff_P239Good, but not quite the same without Ron Livingston.

Yep. Never seen the Office. Thanks for the clarification. I am not in the Wally World demograpic I guess.

but... but... It isn't "The Office" as in the crappy sitcom. It's the MOVIE, titled "Office Space" from the 90's, created by Mike Judge who did "King of the Hill" and "Beavis and Butthead."
It's a great movie with Ron Livingston, Jennifer Anniston, et al.
A cult classic, especially for THAT time period.
Great movie.
(That said, I found this commercial mildly amusing, with a cheap attempt to do a "throwback" for the 90's folks in an pretty tired and pedantic attempt to be relevant)

83v45magnaClearly they are after a bit older demographic. Most of the young un's do not get any references to this movie.
Great commercial though. I think WalMart is aware of who hates them the most. It didn't change my view but as the OP said, you gotta give 'em credit for this effort.
