Here is the class of Astronauts he graduated with. This is an extraordinarily impressive list of guys and gals, yet he smoked them all in terms of accomplishments. The old saying "one in a million" choked when it met to Dr. Kim.

Barring something unfortunate, I see a book deal in the future for this impressive young man. It's obvious that he will serve as an example for us all throughout his life and exploits.

Agreed. Jonny Kim's accomplishments, each one, is an example of excellence. Strung together, a continued committment in the pursuit of excellence...this is a rare trait.

Not to take a single accomplishment away from Kim, but it would be interesting to know what his upbringing was like. I'd be willing to bet that his parents' values and guidance instilled his lifetime pursuit of excellence...as well as his desire to serve.

No doubt.

And even if every advantage is given, make no mistake, the outcome is still a result of his choices and his dedication to set his sights on the goals, and then pursue them with all he can muster.

Given the decades of negative crap that I have seen, and the snowflakes that think and expect all will be handed over because of "want', it does my old heart good to see such as this fine young man, and I want him to realize his dreams.

For all of us.

And NASA has traditionally taken people "on loan" from the military and sort of waved away any requirements or kept them on active duty, depending on what works best.

I'm thinking NASA gets the good end of this deal.

I mentioned this above but thought it might merit a separate response.

People on active duty in the military can be "on loan" to NASA. Buzz Aldrin was on active duty with the Air Force when he walked on the moon.

The service just transfers them to NASA or whatever, and they are still considered "serving" their commitment.

One of the rare win-win situations for the government.

And if there really are face eating aliens out there I definitely want this gentleman defending the earth not some microbiologist from UC Berkeley.

SEAL-Doctor-Astronaut Jonny Kim Is Adding Pilot To His Crazy Resume

The ‘wouldn’t believe it if it weren’t true’ list of accomplishments of Astronaut Jonny Kim keeps growing. Now he’s becoming a pilot.

Is there anything Jonny Kim can’t do?

Scratch piloting an airplane from the list of things the Navy SEAL-turned Harvard-trained medical doctor-turned NASA-astronaut hasn’t yet accomplished.

On June 6, Kim took his first solo flight in a Navy T-6 trainer.

“First solo complete!” he announced in a tweet. “An amazing & valuable growth experience. No substitute for pilot-in-command experience. Even had my 1st in-air malfunction to work through.”

What that malfunction was is not immediately known. We reached out to Kim via Twitter and the Chief of Naval Air Training for more information, and once we get it, we will let you know.

But the fact that he was able to handle whatever happened should come as no surprise from someone who has earned a Silver Star, a Bronze Star with Combat “V” and completed more than 100 combat missions in Iraq....

Why don't you just decide on what you want to do? You'll never get seniority if you always keep changing careers! When are you going to give me grandchildren?"

He has three kids, so the whole "grandchildren" thing is already checked off.

I am wondering when he had the time.
