Indeed. Big Grin

Too bad what you're gonna get in Sitka couldn't be shipped here cheaper than the crazy $40.73/lb we just paid for some at our local great fishmonger's. Only reason we splurged at that price was the 2 year wait to get some. Roll Eyes

Well, by the time I pay airfare and the outfitter it'll be damn near $40/lb. Big Grin

There is a co-op of local fishermen in SE AK that flash freezes their catches and will ship them. Can't remember the name now, but Google will know. Last time I checked they were running around $30/lb. Still obscene, but better. Wink

Looks and sounds fantastic. And the seafood counter puts anything we have in a 300 mile radius to shame.

I did get 10% off with my military discount for $36.66/lb net. Big Grin

Did a search but didn't find any co-op that didn't require membership "shares" to buy fish.

Purveyor prices are pretty much around $40/lb with few exceptions:

Dressed things up (lololololol) with fresh parsley and lemon wedges. Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

Don't know if you checked their Facebook page I linked. LOTS more photos. They have stores in both Rapid City and Sioux Falls (~340 miles apart on each side of the State in the 2 largest metro areas). They supply area restaurants in addition to retail trade. Quality is exceptional with fresh varieties flown in.

As stated, and as you found out...less is definitely more when it comes to fresh seafood. Of course, you aren't exactly getting fresh, but about the best money can buy.

When I bring our halibut catch back to process, whether home or camp, we usually get a turkey fryer going (typically because we also bring back shrimp...). Fresh shrimp boil with halibut cheeks.

Simple, saute in garlic butter with splash of salt and pepper. Needs nothing more. Once you've had them truly fresh, all that frozen store stuff just doesn't taste the same.

AKSuperDually,

Yes, flash frozen and shipped to a reputable fishmonger here in the northern plains is the best we can hope for.

But then again we have access to fresh bison and our ranchers produce some of the very best beef in the United States!

Satch,

Never have had Walleye cheeks. Will have to inquire. Big Grin
