I had Grok summarize the two rulings and the political affiliations of the two federal judges involved in rulings against the Trump administration's SNAP funding restrictions during the 2025 government shutdown:

U.S. District Judge John J. McConnell Jr. (Rhode Island, who mandated full $12 billion November funding by November 7)

U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani (Massachusetts, who ordered partial payments from contingency funds, revised to 65% on November 4).

Both are Democratic-affiliated judges nominated by Obama.

BTW, The Trump administration appealed these to the First Circuit Court of Appeals, which includes some Republican appointees (e.g., William J. Kayatta Jr. by Trump, Jeffrey R. Howard by G.W. The Republicans tend to be spineless in the face of legacy media propaganda. They always cave in despite having the high ground. Trump doesn't do that, and he succeeds. In this situation, Schumer wants what is unpopular with the public. So far the Senate Republicans have played it right, holding votes on the CR and offering future votes on stand-alone issues. That's a winning strategy, not a stand-off.

If the Senate were 50/50 R and D, that might be a stand-off. What we have now is the minority holding the country hostage, using citizens' pain as leverage. Giving into them is like paying an extortionist. They learn they can get what they want, and they'll keep coming back for more.

When all the people that are abusing the food stamp program start eating each other wholesale, let me know, until that time, leave the govt shutdown.

Most people have the ability to make it though this if one spouse is not getting paid, it might cost interest in short term debt, but they back pay will be paid.

There’s another reason Republican Senators (and also Democrats) want to keep the filibuster. It gives them cover for clandestinely opposing a presidential priority. They can safely support a bill the President wants, but which they don’t. He’ll never know of their lack of real support, because GOP Senators can just blame their inaction on a filibuster fail. Sorry, we tried.

The filibuster was never meant to be a minority veto. As the clip above explained, it was originally designed to slow down debate. Not stop debate. The current silent filibuster rule is, in fact, a malignant mutation that stops debate in its tracks and acts as a minority veto. None of that is constitutional.

In summary, 8 Senate Democrats have split from their party and voted in support of a deal to end the shutdown and fund the government through January, reaching the 60 total votes needed to pass.

They compromised in exchange for a guaranteed vote on extending Healthcare marketplace subsidies to be held in December, as well as a reversal of any layoffs during the shutdown. And this deal does include back pay for federal employees who have been either furloighed or working without pay.

The final vote will likely be held within days, followed by a House vote and then sending it to the President.

And then we get to do it all again in January...

At this point, it doesn't matter how soon we go back to work. It's going on 2 weeks prior to Thanksgiving now and Christmas coming nearly 30 days later. Only 33 Working Days as of 11/11/2025 remaining in the year and everyone in Govt has "Use or Lose" vacation to burn and it will take weeks to months to get caught up with all the backlog of work, authorize payments, and new contracts. Nothing meaningful will get done prior to JAN 2026.

It didn't have to be this way, but decisions made well above my pay grade. We were told to stand down even though we had 2 year money in hand to pay personnel. This whole shutdown was about Forcing Change regardless of the ass pain it caused. I've been with Gov now for over 15 years, same crap, different channel.
