My wife has a few chips in her Kia and I figured easiest thing to to would be order the Kia paint...wrong! Stuff is the consistency of water and barely has any tint to it...After that I went to Autozone but all they had was Duplicolor universal white Is there such a thing as a good TU paint or am I better of going to a body shop and seeing if they can mix me a pint? | ||

Is the car white? It is very difficult for home touch-up to do a quality job on a lot of colors. Our local NAPA Auto Parts store has a tool which "reads" your color and gives them a recipe for the correct mix. If your car is a non metallic white, that is one of the easier colors to touch up. | |||

The actual color is Snow White Pearl and if it was more than a couple of stone chips I would be more concerned | |||

Todays paints are not single stage, it's a base clear coat system and pearls are tougher, so be sure you have the correct touch up. The Kia stuff may be thin but it will be correct. Probably take several touch up sessions to build up the color in the chip then it needs to be sanded down. Just in case you wanted a video to watch about it... FF to 3 min to get to the details on detailing your detail... Oh and the music may have your wife asking if you're watching porn on the innerweb..... HRK hit it. Pearls & such are much harder to DIY touchup. Even some 'plain' solids, depending on age as they fade & won't be an exact match. Our Flex is a discontinued Ford color White Suede (metallic) and was touched up with what looks like Oxford White (non-metallic). Luckily it's small & doesn't stand out. The Enemy's gate is down. | |||

If its a pearl coat it may even be a tri-coat. This a base, a midcoat, and then clear. Is what they gave you perhaps the midcoat? It would look like clear paint with a bunch of metallic in it. Solid white can be tricky, it can "bleach" over time, most colors do it but you really see it on white. So the car may be more blue than the new fresh paint you are putting on it. This usually happens within 24-72 hours of first exposure to sunlight from the factory. The viscosity really shouldn't be a concern, if its paint from Kia it should be a color match. The visc will affect how it sprays (wet, dry, etc) but usually they do a good job making sure the color is on. Duplicolor is the material many OEMs use in the factory to do repairs. I used to hate selling Cadillac owners Pearl White touch up paint. One of our catalogs had a note regarding poor color match. In my experience, having owned 3 Mazdas, they chip very easily. I recently sold a black Mazda3 that probably had 200 chips between the hood, from portion, doors, etc. I bought a Dr. Colorchip kit and over the course of 2 days, filled every chip 1 to 3 times. On some areas of the hood I used a small piece of rubber to spread the paint out. In the end, the car looked great. I highly recommend it.
