Congratulations to your daughter and you. I defended my thesis twenty years ago so I know of her grit and determination.
Based on her research, she was performing biomolecular recognition using RNA chemistry. The work is applicable to CRISPR and proteomics (specificity of DNA editing/gene expression and protein recognition, respectively).

I remember leading up to my defense I was as nervous as I’ve ever been but once we started I realized that I knew as much, if not more, than my committee members. By the end of the defense we were talking about theoretical’s ..
It was a day I will never forget.
