I was going to post the scene from Hitcock’s The Birds, but I’m not real up on video posting. There’s the scene from RoboCop as well.

Exactly what you did was the right response.

Train how you intend to Fight

Remember - Training is not sparring. Sparring is not fighting. Fighting is not combat.

a friend and I stopped for gas on the motorcycles, he has a habit of keeping a cigar in his mouth, not lit, and was pumping gas.

Someone thought he was smoking and yelled "It's a gas station dumbass!", jumped in his micro truck and sped off, probably thinking he should run from the bikers to not get his ass beat.

We just looked at each other and laughed about it, guy had no clue it wasn't lit...

Best thing though is just let it go, now if he's walking up to you while you are pumping gas, then it's another story.

Static electricity causes far more gas pump fires.

I make it a point to yell at or confront everybody who doesn't property ground themselves prior to pumping gas. Wink

Yes, far and away, the best advice.

I once tried to educate some idiot pumping gas with an e-cigarette. I got very frustrated and left as quickly as I could, and I would not do it again.

Just because you can,
doesn't mean you should

If I really felt the need to talk to the guy, I'd just find another station instead.
Too many crazies out there and that guy is already half way there, showing poor judgement, at least.
