Paul Drake had some great lines, like, "It's a beat joint. No lights, no liquor, no laughs."

I had to look that quote up.
From this episode: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0...characters/nm0000994

quote:

Perry Mason : What's the Purple Wall?

Paul Drake : It's a beat joint. No liquor, no life, no laughs. They just sit around hating themselves.

Anther gem is listed on that page.

quote:

Perry Mason : What are you, Buzzie?

Buzzie : I'm beat, daddy. I'm beat. No past. No present. No future. Alone, me. Nothin' else except chaos and confusion and squares.

I remember watching when it was new and still watch every day. I like the black and white and the fact that good wins over evil.

Made me want to be a lawyer, but I never got there. However, my son is a lawyer and that is close enough.

I did find out later in life how television skews things.... like all the witness testifying at a trial being allowed in the court room to listen to other's testimony,,...

I've watched every episode and still watch it periodically on MeTV. They even had one in color, Season 9 episode 21. After that one they went back to B&W to finish the series.

I probably watched a handful of shows, didn't care for it all that much.

Our Law School Class, at least most of them, gathered in the lunch room at noon, back in the late 70s, to watch Perry. As we became more familiar with the law, trials, evidence rules and the law, we began shouting our objections, making our rulings over the judge's and yelling at HamBurger, Perry and the judge for their errors.

We loved the show, the characters and the stories, but learned not to rely on Perry for our legal and trial knowledge.

Might be my all time favorite TV show. Used to watch it in reruns all of the time, and then purchased the entire DVD set years ago. We still watch it occasionally, in chronological order. To me, it is an extremely well written show with excellent casting, great classic character actors showing up in guest spots, and I love the look of the show. I never grow tired of it, no matter how many times I have seen an episode.

Sat and watched Perry every week with the family.

Nice to watch an age when actors projected there voices, Now a days, maybe its just me, but actors all whisper when they say there lines, I find it annoying!

And how many remember Burr for his great non-speaking but pivotal role earlier in his career as a murderer? (extra points for the character’s name)

You must be referring to his role in Hitchcock's Rear Window. I do not recall the character's name. I probably have never known it.

Yes, Burr played heavies early in his career. Check out his evilness in the films noir Desperate, Raw Deal, and Red Light. Very menacing. He was better as a heavy than as the good guy IMO.

My organization trains lawyers and law students in advocacy, and many of our faculty and authors are, well, older, and I have to remind them that very few attorneys under, say, fifty, much less the current crop of law students, will know who Perry Mason is, much less have seen a show, so update your references.

We loved the show, the characters and the stories, but learned not to rely on Perry for our legal and trial knowledge.

Yeah, I remember my Mom watching and loving the show ( or maybe Paul) when I was a little kid.

But Perry wasn't Hoppy, wasn't Gene, wasn't
Roy so he wasn't interesting and I was too young to care about Della, so I paid little attention.

I'm 54 years old, and I remember watching episodes with my dad and enjoying it...he absolutely would not miss it. I can't say that I've seen an episode in the past 10 years. I probably need to watch a few...I'm sure I would like it.

Christmas, 1969, I was given my own television set, a 9 inch B&W portable, and it was the greatest gift ever. The very first thing I watched on it by myself after I took it into my bedroom was Ironside. This is why I can tell you that December 25, 1969 was a Thursday, because that's the day of the week NBC aired the show.
