It's strange. I was just thinking last night that it was a bit bizarre in terms of the internet that I was still able to chat with my best best friend, primarily, still through AIM. It's what we started talking over in 2001, and we still do today. He asked me what we should migrate to. ICQ is still floating around out there. I think its actually used as the backbone to a lot of free online chatroom stuff still. I remember when you were 'hot shit' if you had a cell phone that could get on AIM. ------------------------- If not me then who? If not now then when? | |||

AOL bought them, and then sold them in '10 to the Russians. I remember first using it in 1998, and got a couple dates off it in '99. Quit using it in early 2000s between getting a little stalkerish and getting bombarded by foreigners wanting to try out written English on Americans. If you're talking using a computer, you could try XMPP. You could both sign up for free at the original IM service based on XMPP. The protocol was, in fact, originally called "jabber." AIM... haven't used it in years. Looks like I didn't even bother to configure Pidgin last time I upgraded my system.
