There's not much better than a happy marriage (and not much worse than a bad one). Our 19th is coming up in a couple of weeks, and we are truly happy together.
I really don't understand why the institution of marriage has eroded as far as it has. It appears that young people these days have no expectation taht a marriage will last more than a couple of years, or perhaps no longer than it takes for one or the other to become interested in a new partner. Yes. new love is a wonderful and exciting thing, but old love isn't so bad either.
In general society, there seems to be little to no pride in being able to sustain a commitment over time. In contrast, when I was growing up, truthfulness and faithfulness were considered virtues. |
