Nobody seems to want old gas guzzlers and this one sat on the dealers showroom floor for 7 months and the price kept dropping. Today I took my very nice 2011 4Runner with 202k miles and made a trade for this one-owner 1997 30th anniversary Z28 with 26k miles. Auto, well optioned with grey leather, cd, boot for the top, carpet and weather tech mats, power seat, power trunk.

Woman's husband died but she couldn't bring herself to part with the car so it stayed in the garage under a car cover for several years only getting driven a bit in the summer. It's totally stock and a true survivor. I'm pals with the dealer and he made me a sweet deal to move it.

Nice score bud!! It looks like a TON OF FUN!

In high school one of my friends had a similar vintage Z28 with t-tops and a manual. We used to drag race on a two lane black top not too far from where we lived.

My Mustang 5.0 convertible was what I consider a quick car for that time but unfortunately my friends Z28 smoked my 5.0 consistently when we raced.

I had another friend with a Monte Carlo SS that my Mustang would dust every time. Man those were fun times. Cool

Your Z28 would look incredible with those reddish/orange anniversary stripes on the hood. Big Grin

I'll give you $1k over whatever you paid and repay your tax and tags.

Edit, thought it was T-Tops, nevermind.

Congratulations, enjoy.

I believe the 1997 F-bodies still had the LT1 motor in them. The LS1 debuted in the C5 Corvette for the 1997 model year.

The LT1 was a mighty fine motor for its time. Definitely a big upgrade over the L98. There is a company called TPIS in Minnesota who created an intake manifold called the Mini Ram which GM would copy for the LT1 intake. The L98 had long runners from the plenum to the intake for great torque but low peak horsepower while the LT1 had more horsepower at higher RPMs.

Great shape for 27 years old! I briefly had an earlier Z28. If a single flake of snow landed anywhere near it, I was instantly stuck!

I love it!

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

What a find! I owned a very similar performance 1997 Firebird Formula, 6-speed, V-8. You post brings back great memories of that car.

You’re about to pay more to maintain it than the 200k 4Runner…. But it’ll be FUN

Fantastic score, that mileage is incredible.

Camaro's are fun to drive. Sad to see them going away. Again!

I have that same car in my garage, I bought new in 1997. Mine is a hard top.
It has 75K original miles.

But I blew the motor racing it, and now it has a 383 stroker, stainless steel Comp Cam, and bored heads and intake.
Your fun is just starting.
Smile Factor 5!

Nice score, and it looks immaculate, since it's been stored and not run much you need to keep an eye on the water pump.

The LT1 is a good engine, the precursor to the LS line of V8's but it's flaw was the OptiSpark system which installed the distributor spark control on the front of the block right below the water pump.

Once the pump starts leaking it's a matter of time before it kills the OptiSpark. So keep an eye on the water pump since it sat so long, and starting to drive it more might reveal some surprises.

Washing the engine with a pressure washer, driving through water anything that can get lots of moisture to the spark control unit can cause it to start to rust internally and fail

https://www.lt1howto.com/articles/optisparkfaq.htm

Other than that the platform is quite solid.
