Does anything work to fix this condition - toe nail fungus
I have it on my toes and most fingernails. Years ago my doc gave me a script for something and it worked but almost killed my liver. It did return and haven’t tried anything. Looked at all the supposed cures in cvs and thought does anything really work and still haven’t tried to cure. Doc mentioned topicals work temporarily as the fungus is in the blood.

If your doctor really said it’s in your blood he’s full of it. He wants to sell you drugs and a liver. The fungus can get deep in the nail so it can be hard to get rid of with topicals. But it isn’t floating around your bloodstream unless you have a serious infection with lots of other problems, usually if you have AIDs or other immuno-compromised issues.

I soak my feet in warm water and bleach mixed 10 to 1 for 10 to 15 minutes, it kills about anything on your feet........

My doctor suggested soaking the feet in Scope mouthwash. I admit I didn't keep up with it long enough to know if it works. (Or maybe it was Listerine.)

I had that issue with my big toe and I had to go to the dr’s and was prescribed an anti fungal. It took time, but it worked.

Best solution I found was to go to podiatrist...numbed the toe with novocaine, removed the toenail, prescribed anti-fungal soak and use of over the counter anti-fungal ointment. No nail to act as a barrier to meds...

This person recommends providone iodine and tee tree oil:

My wife has been doing this for a few weeks now. I'll keep you posted on its efficacy.

It can over time be far more serious than just cosmetic.

I had a pretty good case going over a decade ago, both same big toes and they got super thick and were causing the nails to curve under on the sides and were becoming painful. I tried tea tree oil, vapor rub and a myriad ton of other solutions. Never chose the prescription.

What eventually worked for me was bleach. I put bleach in a foot soak unit about quarter cup of bleach and did it every couple days for a a few months, then gradually taper to few days then a week. As the nail grew out over time you could see it getting clearer. I also alternated with using Johnson’s foot soap a couple times a week. Still do bleach soak every couple months as well as Johnson’s. For the bleach I soaked 30-40 minutes then afterwards I would dry my feet then go sit on bathtub rail then hand wash my feet with dial or other soap. Too much bleach in the water you will know, it will feel like an irritant because it is, especially if not mixed enough but I used as much as I felt I could. A few times I used too much and a light layer of skin peeled in a few spots but no issues beyond slightly peeling skin. Also keep the nails trimmed back without curving in sides too much, keep straightish cuts and any debris underneath nail from the fungus cleared best possible

That’s my suggestion, ymmv

Tea tree oil cured a nail fungus that started on a thumbnail. Weird place for fungus but I applied it nightly for two weeks and it fixed her right up.

Chlorine bleach and hydrogen peroxide along with other things mentioned here all can act as an antiseptic.

Has anyone ever tried chlorhexidine?

Great antiseptic, easily available in a soap and doesn’t burn your skin like Sodium hypochlorite (bleach).

Not for treating toe fungus. But I use it as a topical antiseptic for wound cleaning. It's great. Way better for your skin and the wound's healing process than the old stand-bys of hydrogen peroxide or alcohol.
