I was reading the thread about the Jason Hairston suicide and seeing folks wonder why etc.
Now let me preface by saying I am not looking for a 12 gauge mouthwash. So I don’t need an intervention.
Now that being said....I have the American Dream. Good job, wife, kid, disposable income, friends, etc. etc. I am not RICH but I want for nothing material.
All that being said I have and continue to wrestle with my own demons, my own nialistic thoughts. Some days really can be fairly overwhelming with any number or fears or issues or bitches and moans. (As I know my bitches and moans and feckless bullshit to folks with......well real problems)
My point is, live long enough and I would imagine more the most of us wrestle with some demon or another. I am a bastard and the occasional asshole but that fact helps me temper my interactions with others because if I wrestle with demons then surely those with real problems do and therefore those who have conquered the world do as well.
My point is life is a bitch.....period. Rich, poor, successful or not. Everybody gets their share of shit and sometimes those folks who have everything suffer more because they know they have no right to.
Just food for thought.

He died of a brain disease, the suicide was a symptom.

People like neat little packages. So, naturally, some people escape criticism in death, and others get derided as weak, selfish, etc. etc.
Everyone is human, and yes, even the famous are vulnerable. What is not true in any case, be it a famous person or an unknown, is that everything is neat and tidy.
That's just how we want it. Neat and tidy. The reality is that the reasons leading to a suicide, or OD, or any premature death, are complex, messy, and human.
Success and fame are no panacea against depression, mental illness, addiction, and many other things that affect the rest of us.

synthplayerEverything in life comes down to perspective. Ask someone in a western nation what his biggest desire is. Then go ask a mother in a third-world country what her biggest wish is. His might be anything from a big screen TV to a nicer car. Hers will be food and shelter for her children.
I would say to anyone who pretty much has it made in our country, and who battles depression: Wake the Hell up! Is it going to take losing everything for you to realize how well off you are? Get some perspective, man! Go visit lonely old widows in the old folks homes; go ladle out some soup in a soup kitchen in the inner city; think about becoming a foster parent.
True joy in life comes from helping others. I know that sounds ridiculous, but I have seen the truth of that statement born out in the lives of
many people. This is why narcissists are never truly joyful. It is a real paradox of humanity.

Still, it depends on your perspective. Imagine some no-good, unfaithful, ungrateful wife cheats on her husband. Then, imagine he also finds out he has cancer. There are people in much much worse situations who don’t kill themselves, no matter what he had he chose to take his life. Like someone stated on the other thread, people used to play football with leather helmets and went on to live long lives without killing themselves. Blaming it on CTE and acting like he had nothing to do with his suicide makes no sense. I’m sure his 10year old son wishes his dad would have touched it out. Yes it’s his choice to take his own life but I can’t help but think about the effect on his child. I grew up with people whose parents committed suicide and it has a great impact on the kids.
