Exactly!

There's the $3200 taillights on certain F-150 models, too.
The more the automakers are put sparkle and bling into their products, the less "we normal people" want of it, or can afford.

God bless America.

Then there's the Grand Wagoneer. Growing up people had Wagoneers to tow their boat, haul their dogs, go camping on the weekend. Now it's a luxury SUV that can easily sticker for over $100k. So you went from the affordable, able to beat the shit out of vehicle for people who actually had a need for it to the luxury leather lined SUV that the only off road action it will see is if the trophy wife driving it skips the curb at the Starbuck's drive thru.

Big Grin
You speak the truth. I used to have one.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

They bought out FCA (Chrysler) a few years back.
They must be doing a bang-up job, then, because I am not kidding when I say that I have never heard of them.

Cutting the fat with only 400 people over all of these companies doesn't seem like a big deal to me.

I visit a lot of Chrysler Dodge Ram dealerships and every one of them is overflowing with Chargers and Challengers.

In fairness, I think the waterborne paint can be pinned on government mandates.

It appears most of those cuts were here in the US. A lot of that would be in this area as this is where the Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep HQ facility is so that IS a lot.

That was my thought as well, 400 for an auto company doesn’t sound like a lot from a big picture. And being that the 400 were told to stay home for an online meeting tells me these were office positions. I wonder how many were DEI positions.

But is this an indicator? I’ve been expecting a recession back in 2023.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

I had a 2019 Ram 1500 that could not run correctly if even if I was pushing it. I had to get rid of it and continued to receive the "Return to dealer immediately for service" alert on my phone for months after it was gone. Never again Ram, Chrysler or whatever your name is now.

Because son, it is what you are supposed to do.

There are several youtubers who have been walking around the lots and seeing a lot of inventory on expensive vehicles. Pickup inventory seems to be at an all-time high right now because they're all optioned up with additional dealer options as well. Pickups are extremely overpriced right now. However, Toyota seems to be the exception to the rule.

As it was noted in my jeep thread, Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge is heavily discounting all their vehicles right now trying to get inventory moving.

Not of anything universal but could be that inflation has pegged out the auto industry and high inventories are evidence of that.
At least a correction in this industry is long overdue.
Car prices are insane.

I said it earlier in this thread and I'll say it again, the unions have made this situation even worse. People can't afford the prices the companies have to charge.

My son just bought a new Challenger and the rebates now are insane-great if you are a consumer. I was able to set up his account for payments and the telephone operator could barely speak English. I had to ask him to repeat things many times. I wonder how many jobs now are South of the border.

Stellantis is particularly responsible by cranking up their prices more than anyone in the industry in the last 5 years. Then the dealerships are responsible for the rest because they have been gouging the customer since everyone knows the Hemi will no longer be available in the cars.
