Four pints of lawnmower engine oil. Each pint was in its original container. Double-bagged.

I bring it to the counter. The kid says oh sure, let me just get you to fill out this form.

Sure, give me a second to get something from my truck.

vroooommmm

I'm guessing someone will tell me why the bullshit, but I don't care. I could have taken the easy route and put it in my trash and it would have ended up in a landfill. I don't like being penalized for doing the right thing. I'm confident I'm not the first WalMart oil recycler to skate on the paperwork.

It’s BS on WalMart’s part. I feel bad for the clerk though. He’s probably still waiting for you to come back. Everyone else has clocked out, the lights are off, and that guy is standing there muttering, “He said he was coming back.”

Walmart has had the form requirement here for years.

We take ours to AutoZone, no forms and they take it back and empty into their waste oil tank.

Autozone never asked me to fill out a form, They just wanted to know roughly how many quarts I brought in since theres's a daily limit I think.

I take mine to O'Reillys too, and they just take it and dump it into a drum in the back. No questions.

Was it effective?

If so, wish I had known this technique before buying one of these CO contraptions to deal with rats underneath my chicken coop. This thing has worked well, with the odor of death within a few days of each usage. Simply put them to sleep. I had been hoping for a nice black snake to show up all summer, and was delighted to witness a 4 footer working his way into the tunnel system last month. I have reserved the CO treatment since I saw the snake disappear into one of the rat's surface entries. It was actually a fun summer summer picking off rats at sunset with an old single action .22 pistol with CCI rat shot. The cat has been doing his job as well, so the rats are currently under control.

What is the logic of using burnt motor oil for this purpose?

The local car parts shop takes old oil for recycling. They have a form. The employees don't care what name you put on there, nor if you write down the store address.

Or, so I'm told....

I've got enough storage to go 2 or 3 years between Walmart oil recycling drop offs so perhaps they've changed. However, last time the guy just had to grab the keys and walk me out to the recycling cage for me to dump my oil while he watched.

Para that’s some funny chit! Reminds me of when I was early 20s trying to get rid of an old fiberglass boat, but wanted to keep the trailer. Went to the (large metropolitan) city recycling center, and asked where boats go. The guy at the gate said he’d radio back to check with someone, and to pull in and around the corner to the right. I went all the way in back, found a quiet corner, and tied a rope to the stern and drove out from underneath it. Covered my license plates with paper bags and tape, and laid tracks! Good times! Big Grin

Our county has a recycling 'center'. For used oil, drive in, dump in the big tank and drive out.

Our local 10 minute oil change place allows used oil drop offs with zero questions or hassle. They said they receive a discount on their “house oil” based on the amount of used oil is picked up from an on site used oil tank.

Guess they view used oil from outside customers to be free credit to their facility. They only have to dump it into the tank that is behind a locked chain linked gate.

The idjit at my local recycling center said to just burn it after dark, when no one could see the smoke...

The local auto shop took it off my hands.

A good friend of mine built a waste oil boiler system. I've seen the boiler operating and it will consume oil, wood, coal, deer carcasses, and old tires.
He heats his home, workshop, apartments, swimming pool, and hot tub with donated waste oil.
He could care less if it's waste engine oil, automatic transmission fluid, gear oil, or hydraulic oil. If it's oil based, it will burn. Brake Cleaner is OK also.
His only ask is please don't have any water or antifreeze mixed in.

Depending on maintenance schedule nuances, I usually bring him 20 gallons every couple of years.

Have a wood planked utility trailer ? I’ve seen people Roll it on with a paint roller and it makes it waterproof. In the late 70’s early 80’s I remember my dad pouring out along the fence line in the back yard. Kept the weeds down.. water table be damned.
